Shoes - the heel debate!!!

AutumnRose, 16 November, 2009 at 15:52 Posted on Planning 0 30

Sooooooo what have people decided on shoe-wise?!?!?!

I'm not a big fan of most wedding shoes but i've found some lovely ivory ones on the Next website. I'm worried they are going to be too high to wear all day though....i'm used to wearing heels but i have a feeling even my feet will get tired after that many hours in them. Thing is i'm only 5'3 and H2B is 6'3 and i hate pictures of us next to each other when i'm not in heels as we're so far apart in height!!!

So how did you ladies decide? Shall i have low comfy ones and look silly in the pics or persevere with heels and hope i don't notice sore feet because i'll be having so much fun???!!!!

If you can't get one comfy pair, by high heels for the pics and take flats / smaller heels for the reception!!x

The problem with different height shoes is my dress length, i have quite a big skirt on y dress too and if i get the dress right length fo rheels i'll be tripping over it for the rest of the day in smaller ones.

lw2Bc - this is the page (hope it works!!). Ones i love are second from left on bottom, they are so gorgeous!!!! I do like the small heeled ones above them in the ivory BUT i will be shorted and every inch counts!!!

My H2B & ! have about the same height difference you do. I have a pair of 5" heels (!) but they have a small platform at the front which takes some of the pressure of the front of my foot and are surprisingly comfortable.

They are these in Ivory (they were on sale in New Look). Wouldn't have been my first choice if money was no object but were a good compromise to save cash.

Gosh those are high!!!!! You are right about the platform helping though, i think the Next ones have a slight platform in too which is a plus. The party heels will help too but i just dont want to be distracted from the day by thinking about my feet!!

I think my shoes are about 3 and 1/2 inches high, they should be ok. I'll be wearing the gel insoles, and will practice by wearing high heels to work a few weeks before to make sure my feet get used to wearing heels all the time. I will have a back up pair of flats just in case, but hopefully I won't need them.

I have the ivory ones with the diamante strap for me and my bridesmaids, they are really comfy and are as high as I would personally go. A work colleague got married recently and had higher heels. She wears heels all the time but said her feet were really painful by the end of the night!

AutumnRose, I can't help at all but I want to say thanks for the link. I wanted a higher pair for the day then a pair with a lower heel (there is no chance of getting me in flats!!!!) in case my feet hurt in the evening. I needed ones with an open toe and an open back but the only ones I found that I really really liked were benjamin adams and I don't have £200 to spend!! I already have the lower ones, just needed the others! The ones on the far left look like they might be ideal!! Never thought of trying there but thank you!!!

ETA I'm 5'2", not such a big difference between me and OH, it's just that I hate wearing flats and my posture goes terrible when I do

Glad to be of help jem179. I actually have the ones on the left (but with a flower on the front) and wore them to a wedding this summer, they are comfy but i did have to take them off after dancing for awhile.

Are you worried about the length of your dress with having 2 pairs of shoes?

    Hey AutumnRose,

You could be me! I'm 5'2" and the fella is 6'2" and we look ridiculous in pictures together unless I'm standing on a wall in front of him. I wear heels all the time (I need to otherwise noone would see me in my office), but I'm usually sitting on my a*s at my desk, so I've no idea how I'll fare standing all day in them. I think it might be a good excuse to go for more pricey heels (designer shoes are always more comfortable), but then I am a stingy Scot, so I'm not sure I can bear to open my purse strings any more than I already have. Ah the dilemma....

Sorry. That hasn't helped much, has it? What a pointless post! Sorry!!!!! I think I got overexcited at the thought of a fellow small person in the same situation as me... ?

Hi, I'm not too worried, the higher ones will be about 4" and the low ones I have are about 2.5" with a small platform so feels much less. For 1.5" I'm not going to worry too much. I would if I was going from high heels to flats, that would be a much bigger difference though. I think it depends on what shoes you end up with but I think an intermediate heelis better than none iyswim?

Jumbly girl - I like being short most of the time!!! In fact it's often an advantage with shoes like trainers etc because if you can fit in kids sizes they are cheaper!!!! No helpful for the wedding though!!

jem - That's true, it might not make a huge amount of difference. I'm going to hunt about in my shoe collection and see if i can find any the same height as the mid-height ones i like, make H2B stand in mirror next to me in them and have a look!!! God the lengths we go to!!!!

I can't wear stiletto things, so I have gone for 4" wedges....Benjamin Adams 'Carmen'. Btw i can't remember who has just posted about not being able to afford them but I got mine for the bargain price of £50 from an internet shop! So they are available cheaper that RRP,

That was me!!!! There are 2 styles that I like and I managed to find them both on sale!!!! Up to a size 4. I am short but I'm a size 6, so I was very disappointed!!! I've tried 5 pages of google and the bay of e but even there they were £80+ ☹️

You got a real bargain there!!

I do like the Next shoes, and i totally understand the height difference things - esp for pictures!

how about getting wedges? they are often a lot more comfortable and easy to wear. and under a dress it's difficult to tell. you can get really pretty peep toe ones, seen some at Faith, will try to get the link...

also, i definitely think you should get your BM or someone to carry a pair of flats for you. just some plain satiny ones maybe, so JUST in case your feet really ache by the time it gets to dancing then you have the option of changing. i am definitely going to do that - wouldn't want to ruin my entire evening so it's best to have a backup. no matter how much fun i am having i usually notice sore feet, so i wouldn't risk it...

good luck, i haven't even thought of accessories yet!!

I have a height thing with my bridesmaids!! and dont k now what to do.

I have funny feet so tis really hard finding a pair of shoes that are comfortable.

I ahve similar to bunion on the top of my toe instead of the side - frs cant/wont do anything about it but shoes hurt even trainers sometimes!

H2B is about 5 8 and im about 5 4. I like that height difference to him, and hate it when I 'feel' the same height.

However bridesmaids are also 5 8 and bets man is 6 1 so do you think I'll look silly small?

got to sort out shoeds as have my fitting in jan eek!

oh should add that bridesmaids have been advised to wear flats!! *(under long dress so doesnt matter!)

They're gorgeous AutumnRose, I ❤️ them!!! I wish I could wear them but I'll be quite preggars when we get married so everyone's warning me to get comfortable shoes!! I quite like those to the right of the ones you like. Not as nice as your faves but not bad and they have a small heel!

I'm 5'4" and mr delicious is 6'5" so i know how you both feel! I also have serious issues with wearing heels. i have hip and back problems and also a terrible centre of balance and can't wear much above a 2" heel. I am so much more comfy in flats and think i might just end up doing that instead. I'll just have to deal with looking like a short a*se in the pictures because almost everyone i know is taller than me. my four bridesmaids vary in height from 5'6" to 5'9" without shoes on so they are probably going to be asked to wear flats rather than heels.
