Shop rudeness

sherry, 26 January, 2009 at 15:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

My SIL (2b) went into the bridal shop today to look at their dresses (not wedding dresses but they do long and short evening wear) anyway, she loved a straight dress in chocolate and cream. She tried it on and the lady made several comments and told her

Lady - 'You need to have something across the middle to hide your tummy'

SIL - I am trying to lose weight

lady - 'Ohh I wouldn't bother trying to lose weight you won't manage it by May'

SIL - 'I don't need to lose a lot just a little'

Lady - ' I think you do need to lose a lot to fit into this style of dress'

SIL - 'I will bring my SIL to have a look'

Lady - ' Well you will still be the same size so I wouldn't bother'

How roooooooooooodeeeee

Needless to say she is not going to get the dress from there.

My SIL is actually really upset, she suffers from PND as it is and this really knocked her confidence.

Very, very rude. When I was wedding dress shopping and I had stripped off to try a dress on I was told 'you look much thinner in clothes than out of them - you obviously dress well for your size'

    I wouldn't care but I was a size 10/12.

Needless to say I did't buy my dress there and have never recommended the shop ?

    That's really rude.

And it's not as if a slightly wobbly tummy can't be made to look loads better with the correct choice of underwear, anyway. I have a pair of pants that go from under my bust to just above my knees - nothing moves when I wear them (including me to go to the bathroom - never figured out how that's supposed to work)

I'm amazed the lady would have said all that - are you sure that's exactly what was said? I know assistants/owners can be rude but that's really taking it a bit far IMHO

I was a bit aghast when a woman working in the sales office of a new housing development said to H and I when asking if we could look at the showhome 'what makes you think you can afford it'? I see why she was asking, she didn't want her time wasted but even so.

That was exactly what was said, another friend was with her at the time. They are both fairly shy people so didnt say anything to the lady.

I was gobsmacked too and I know my SIL wishes she could have said something but she said it was all she could do to fight back the tears.

I was shopping for knee high boots a few weeks ago and was glad to finally get a pair that fit, which I told the assistant and she said 'oh do you need the wider leg ones normally?...'

    I'm a size 10/12 ?

But your clothes size doesn't make any difference to how big your calves are - you might be slim but have muscly legs.
