Short/Tea Length Wedding Dresses

Pompey, 8 March, 2011 at 10:11 Posted on Planning 0 50

I went to my first wedding fayre last monday and I saw a wonderful tea length dress and now I REALLY want one! Anyone else having a short or tea lengthe dress? I'm only 5'1 and I'm actually petrified of a big dress! Also, I am a bit of a shoe-aholic and have some wonderfully fabulous royal blue shoes I want to show off. I would love to see some flashes! Here are the ones i like so far:

Can I suggest you try them on? Like you, I saw some lovely short wedding dresses at a wedding fair and totally fell in love, H2B liked them too. But when I actually went and tried some on, they didn't quite do it for me (although I didn't try on anything as beautiful as that Justin Alexander!!!). I rarely if ever wear trousers and quite often can be found in dramatic swing dresses etc so for me personally, a big princessy wedding dress was the way to go.

If you are anywhere near this place, I recommend it: http://cuttingedgebrides.com/default.aspx the lady is lovely, it does all run out of her house but don't let that put you off.

Thing is, I know that my mum would have a bit of an episode (not a good one) if I got a short dress.

I love the Justin Alexander!! I WANT one!

If I am being completely honest, the second one reminds me a bit of that Gypsy wedding dress with the thigh high slash - sorry.

I have the Justin Alexander in the colours above but am waiting for it to come into the shop. I am 5ft 1 and will need it altered. Here is a flash of me in the white version. I love it and it is flattering. Is quite expensive though but i have not tried on anything that i liked to the same WANT IT as this dress in my life,so i thought bugger it,i am having it. The dress in two sizes to big and needs loads taken off the bottom in the flash. Forgive the stupid face.

This is what I have my eye on for my short wedding dress.

I always knew I wanted a short length one, being a short person I feel a long dress would drown me

Skybright that is stunning! I even light it in the longer length. I'm only 5ft1 too, I'm having 12 inches off my dress and its still to the floor! x

I wear alot of tea lenght dresses normally so I was a bit worried about having one for my wedding but everytime I tried a "traditional" dress on it diddnt look like me. plus I have to keep my shoulders covered and 99% of the standard dresses were strapless.

I still dont know if I should go strapless with a heart shaped top, or like in the photograph on the previous page.

I just cant decide at all and dont know how I will as I love both styles.

All i know is that its got to have a massive contrasting coloured peticote underneath Smiley laugh

    Hi PP

I'm not sure whereabouts in the country you are but if you're in the South East I can recommend http://www.joanneflemingdesign.com in Brighton and the wonderfully named http://www.furcoatnoknickers.co.uk/ just off Carnaby Street in London. Vivienne of Holloway also sell fifties style tea length bridal dresses. There are some great US companies too like Dolly Couture.

@ Vintage Mini - do you have a pic of you in the dress yet? It looks so adorable and petite on the photo i'd love to see it on.

I am also a teeeny bride going for a big dress and my friends have so far commented that far from drownding me - it makes me look taller.

I've ordered a copy of the Justin Alexander dress from ebay. It should arrive this week. I hope I like it but, if I don't I didn't spend loads on it so can go buy another dress. Fingers crossed it's at least similar to the JA dress as I am in love with it but can't afford the real thing. We are on an extremely tight budget. so I may even hire a designer dress if it's terrible! If I do like it woohoo! Gorgeous dress for £100!!

I have ordered a tea length Enzoani dress for my July wedding, also a petite bride at just 5ft. I tried on all sorts of different dresses but fell inlove with a tea length gown.

I got the Justin tea length dress. I love it but haven't yet tried it on in my size only the sample that was in shop. Mine will be in soon!

It was the first dress I tried on its on page 1 of my scrap book its beautiful.

I had wanted a Candy Antony dress but they are mega bucks even more than the Justin. Also look at "Fur Coat No Knickers" a lovely vintage dress shop. Blue also do a few tea length dresses again slightly higher range budget. I also fell in love with an american designer can't recall the name but she had some lovely dresses.

My whole wedding is themed around 50's / Vintage / Shabby Chic all to go with the dress!

Hi everyone, this is my first time on here!! I decided on a tea length wedding dress to fit in with my shabby chic/vintage/50's style wedding. I tried on a few longer dresses but none of them did it for me and when I explained to my local wedding dress shop what I wanted she suggested trying on a prom/bridesmaid dress from true bride www.truebride.co.uk it was my favourite and also the cheapest at £190 - bargain. This is the picture but mine is in Ivory and is actually 4 inches longer than the picture. They have other short styles that can be ordered in Ivory. I was a bit nervous of how it would look but it arrived last week and looks amazing with my vintage shoes and birdcage veil ? Shoes are below if anyone is interested another bargain picked up on ebay. Just thought I would share this as it may be an option for people on a tight budget like myself. x

Hello, any excuse to flash my dress. It is a vintage 50s dress I got from ebay, it's come all the way from America. It's lacy and very very soft as the lace is cotton. I'll be having pale pink petticoats and a light sage green sash added (I will deffo flash once that's been done!)...
