Should he go to the police...? Advice please

Hi all

My mum in laws partner has recently found out that his own brother faked his <my mum in laws' partner> death to his employer.

MIL's partner hasn't spoken to his brother for several years, but they live in a village and eventually word spread that he was supposed to have died in an accident which he was obviously shocked about. After a bit of digging it was found that this rumour was started by his own brother who went into work and told his boss that his brother had died in an accident whilst at work and there was to be a big court case for compensation etc. He even went to the extent of forging a coroners report, with case numbers, cause of death, everything, and took it into his boss. He hasn't gained financially out of doing this, it seems more that he's just a serial liar and has used this lie as an excuse for sympathy, time off work to attend court hearings, a funeral, grave vists etc.

My MIL's partner is understandably furious, and very hurt. He is wondering if he should go to the police as he has now managed to obtain a copy of the coroners report from his brothers employer (the brother has been suspended from work), I really just wanted to know what charges, if any, could be bought aganist his brother because this is just one in a series of terrible lies he's told over the years, examples are telling people he had cancer and getting time off for radiotherapy, telling his parents that a lady at his work lost her baby to a serious illness and he had two days off, one for the supposed funeral and one because his boss apparenlty closed the office out of respect for the day. All not true.

I'd apprecaite any advice you can give me.

Thank you
