Should I be panicking??

emmaloulou80, 28 October, 2010 at 10:36 Posted on Planning 0 19

I have just under 10 months til we get married, and I've not yet found my dress. Everyone keeps worrying me by saying that I "Need to get a move on!". I'm not overly worried until someone says that and then I go into a bit of a melt down! I thought I had found my dress, but on trying it on again last week, I'm not 100% convinced it's "the one". Should I be worried, I don't want to be settling for something that's not quite right because I'm getting stressed about time running out. Any advice or thoughts greatly appreciated!

I really woudnt worry. 10months is plenty of time. Make youself lots of bridal apointments over the next few weeks, and just have a fest of trying on dresses.

The only real advice I can give, from when my b2b's sister was getting married, was that most shops quote a 4-6 month delivery if you aren't purchasing one 'off she shelf' in the shop.

As a guy, this isn't an issue I've had to worry about - but I do know that for most women it's the hardest decision they have to make when it comes to the big day.

You still have some time, but don't use that as an excuse to put it off. You'll find that it's 'off season' now so a lot of shops will be clearing "last year's styles" at good prices to make room for the "new styles".

Apparently you "will know" when you find "it".

I'd say as long as you give yourself 6 months for it to come in, don't worry. I only had 5 and it should still be here fine.

Keep looking, u will find the one. But i'd say try not to go toooo made. I tried as many dresses on as i could in 2 weeks and started to become a little dissalutioned (sp) they all started looking the same. Try something different to what you expected and go by ur gut reaction rather just people that go with u. x

Keep looking and choose before christmas. BTW don't expect the full blown 'the one moment'! I kept trying one dress on in different shops and looking online so I decided that this must be my favourite dress. If you keep looking at one dress online, and can see yourself in it, don't worry that the whole shop didn't start crying as soon as you put it on!

You have a good 2months yet before you have to order - I ordered mine at start of month and im gettin married in July. With christmas holidays etc it should be here in March / April time so that gives me plenty of time to get alterations, shoes, jewellery etc sorted - cause you'll need to see if your shoes match the dress and have heel height for alterations, if your jewellery, hair accessory etc matches - these things may end up taking a long time to find / decide!

I haven't got much longer than you, there's just under 11 months until my wedding day and I haven't stepped foot anywhere near a wedding dress shop yet. I have seen one that I absolutely LOVE, but it looks great on the model in the pictures, it may look hideous on me and I'll have to start the search from scratch, so until I get around to trying it on I won't know if it really is "the one".

To be honest I'm kinda avoiding it, I'm not really a gushing over wedding dresses kind of person (dare I admit it!️?️). I do LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the one that I've seen, but I'm also worried that I won't like it once I've tried it on, so I'm currently burying my head in the sand and pretending not to worry about it, hoping it'll just go away.

I also have a bit of a delay as either my mum or by best friend (BM) will be coming with me when I try dresses on and niether of them live anywhere close by, so I'm going to have to wait until one or both of them can get to me as I don't have any close friends who live nearby who I could take and I don't want to go on my own ☹️

No probs. if your ordering a dress you'll want about 6 months. But if your happy to order off rail then you can take em home instantly!

That's my other problem causing delays....my Mum is always really busy and my MOH is busy a lot of weekends so I think it's going to be new year by the time I get to go dress shopping again! I've considered going on my own, but worry that I will look a bit sad!!

You may pick up a bargain and get one in the sales... so all good.

You might enjoy going shopping on your own, you wont have anyone else's choices to influence you ?

I've got a year (tomorrow SCREAM!) and I'm not even starting looking till spring. I need to lose my lardy bum because I know if I try any dresses on now I will look like a fat white sausage!

Don't panic. Go in new year sales and see if you can pick up a bargain!

I think you have a good amount of time before you need to panic! My friend is getting married in April next year and only bought her dress last week, people were saying to her that she needed to get a move on but the ladies in the shops we went to didn't seem to think it was a problem Smiley smile

Like the others ladies have said I woudn;t personally until 5-6 months before. You may even pick something up in the sale like others have said. I ordered my dress in September and it's due to be ready Jan/Feb ish! ?

I bought my wedding dress at the end of July and I'm getting married in mid-November so I definitely don't think you're running out of time. Not everyone gets their wedding dress 2 years in advance.

    Dude don't panic!!

Only just bought mine and i'm getting hitched next June!! It'll get delivered in January leaving loads of time for alterations. And for F***s sake DON'T buy that one you saw unless you're really sure!!! You'll only then see "the one" and you'll have to take yours back or sell it etc. Don't worry yourself over it but just have a good look through magazines and internet before trawling the wedding shops, otherwise u just get disheartened. Good luck with the search!! xxx

I kind of have an idea in my head, and I have narrowed it down A LOT with the ones I've tried on so it's not been time wasted. I know what suits my shape now and what doesn't so hopefully I'm not too far off finding it. I think I'm getting impatient as I've seen some lovely jewellery and tiaras etc and obviously can't think about these until I have the dress!

Ok, so....thanks to everyone's reassurance I decided to stop panicking, so thanks all! Now I am back to panicking as my bridesmaid has just announced that she has set the date for her wedding for 2012, and guess what?? She's already get her dress!! Eeeek! Bit early I feel but is the serious kick up the arse I needed!!
