Should I go to a beauty salon to get my bridal make up done?

Bridaldaze, 23 September, 2013 at 12:33 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hi, I am new here.

I am not having a bridal party. The make up artists I have contacted so far won't come out and do hair and make up for the bride only on a weekend. So am thinking I ccould find a beauty salon instead? Anyone done this? I am not precious about them having to come to the house.

I am also frustrated at some of the work I have seen on professional make up artist sites so far. To be frank, when the brides look like they have applied their own minimal every day make up and have done a very average job at it. What is the point in paying a so called professional make up artist?

I personally, want to look enhanced and transformed by the make up and their skill.

Would a beauty counter at a department store be another option as well?

I'm going to my hairdresser and beautician, but then I'm getting married local to home and at 3.45pm so don't have any time constraints. If time/location isn't an issue I don't see any difference, the make up will look the same plus it'll no doubt be cheaper!

Where are you getting married? Most make up artists will come for just the bride - mine did.

I suppose it depends on how good you are at doing your own. The makeup I apply doesn't last all day and I wanted to be sure that I looked the best I could for all 12 hours. My make up artist made sure of that.

    Hello & welcome!

A lot of MUA's do come out for the bride alone so check out some more if you'd like that. I'm sure a beauty salon would be ok too just pop in for a trial whenever you can and see if you'd be happy with them.

I've known of a few people going to a make up counter at department stores and getting an in store make over and some tips, and a lot of the girls work aside from that so may offer to do it for you.

Another option is to get a one to one lesson on how to do your make up professionally but some prices of that i'd prefer to just pay a professional MUA on the day to do a great job and have make up that lasts all day as well as looks good.

Try and have more of a good look around and hopefully you'll find someone willing to come out for just you and save you some stress and do a brill job as well.

I have gone with a lady who come to the house but only beacuse the price is good and she seems lovely. When I was looking I looked at salons too. I am going to my normal hairdresser so I'll go to the town and have my hair done then come home and have the MUA do my face. I would have been just as happy to have both done in town and then come home to get dressed.

I was a BM last year and we went to a salon which did hair and make up then went back to the hotel to get ready. It was lovely we had so much time we went to the cafe next door for a coffee afterwards so we got some odd looks being so made-up so early in the day but we didn't care.

I would personally have someone come to you if you can so if you tell us where you are getting married, we may be able to suggest someone?

DW I'm curious as to why you suggest this what advantages are there that I'm missing? Sorry if it's blindingly obvious.

That sounded a relaxed way to do it.

I live so close to town it is not an issue to drive in. That don't need to come to me Smiley smile

I have tried so many of the local ones, I am not stressing myself over contacting anymore. Smiley smile

I speak to brides on a daily basis, the planning is always exciting and they are quite calm about the day. One the day, it can be a different story. If the bride can either stay at home to get ready or if the couple are having everything at one location and she is getting ready there, I find the bride is a lot more relaxed. The minute you add travel time to the day, I find they get quite anxious. Clock watching even.

Thanks. I wondered if it was something like that. I clock watch all the time so the 15mins to town will be no different. I think I'll do better getting out the house! I hate staying in all morning as it is. Plus I'll have to walk Rosco before I go to the hairdressers so I've planned my mornign to fit it all in.

You know what suits you ?. The good thing is it is your hair, then you get to chill while having your make up done. If you run over then there is time to catch up before your dress goes on. I find some people don't give enough time for this and rush and panic.

Thanks. Plus my dress is zip up so should only take 2 mins to get dressed. More time for a bacon sandwich and a bucks fizz I think.

    Hahaha cool Smiley smile

I like the idea of showing up at a time that suits me and getting in there and out.

FH and I are spending the day together, so the more time I get with him before the wedding the better !

I did my own make up and really don't regret it. I took a make class from a groupon offer and bought some decent make up and it was probably a bit more expensive but much better value in the long run.

For someone like myself who is hopeless with make up, it would be a valuable skill to have long after the wedding.

Might be something I look into Smiley smile

I am thinking I will do my own make up, not because I am particularly good at it, but because I am scared I will feel really strange and "caked" in make up if a professional does it as I don't usually wear much make up. I am trying to decide between paying for a trial to discover how I feel about the make up , or using the money to have a lesson.

Also, will probably do my own hair as even though it is fairly short it is very thick and I have never had a blow dry where my hair has actually been properly dry. I think the hairdressers don't realise quite how long it takes to dry!

    Hi,

My daughter used all bare minerals and looked amazing. you can go to the counter in John lewis or \debenhams and they will advise you and then they can make a lst of products for you to buy gradually to do it yourself.

    Hope that helps
