Should we get a discount?

Whitler84, 27 June, 2013 at 15:50 Posted on Planning 0 11

I have just phoned our venue up to pay the balance (11k) and asked if we could have a hotel room for the night after the wedding at a discounted rate. I was told 'no, we dont need to give discounts as its bank holiday weekend so we know we can fill the rooms at full price'.

After just paying them £11'000 plus all the money they are going to get from our guests in drinks I am really disappointed and annoyed. Do you think they should have given us a discount on a room as a thank you? We havent recieved any discounts or freebies from them throughout the whole process.

So not the wedding night but the night after?

No, I don't think they should have given you a discount. To be blunt, they don't need to thank you, you've paid your money and they can make more of it by booking the room out to someone paying full price. It's bad business to offer cheap rooms as niceties.

Well, it's not so much that you 'should' get a discount, but it would have been nice of them to offer one.

Yes the night after the wedding. I thought it would be nice if we stayed the night after and then we didnt have to rush out of our room at 11 and go home. It would have been nice of them to say 'thank you for spending all that money with us, you can have £30 off your room' but I guess they have our money now so they dont care. Is even more annoying that friends of ours booked the same venue off the back of our recommendations - a sale they wouldnt have made if we hadnt have been getting married there!

I don't think its unreasonable of them at all, if I'm honest.

Ooops! I read it as the night of the wedding, not the night after! In which case a bit of discount would have been nice but not entirely out of order if they don't offer it!

We get a tiny discount on our room but it's still £330 a night and we are paying the same for our venue as you.

I tried to blag a free room, they said they couldn't do it and I just thought 'ah well'.

Pollicy is policy sometimes and nothing can be done. They don't have to give you anything unfortunately.

I agree with everyone else. It would have been a nice gesture but there's no reason for them to offer you a discount.

This exactly. It's a nice gesture, but they don't have to do it. They day after your wedding is business as usual for them; it makes financial sense for them to sell the room for the full tariff rate if they know they will get the booking.
