"Show towels" and wind-ups

SophieM, 29 April, 2008 at 14:46 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 97

Inspired by BT ?

A couple of people on a thread over --------> there have admitted having towels which are kept hanging up but are for show only, and whech they get awfully annoyed if anyone uses.

Two questions:

1. Do you have show towels? ?

2. What annoys you?

My answers:

1. No. ?

2. Today, mostly tourists who wader along in a daze paying no attention to the world around them apart from the pretty flowers/ducks/Palace of Westminster, making it impossible to get past them when one's out for a run. And they wonder why they get mugged ☹️!]

    1. No I don't have show towels. I'm not sure I understand why anyone would. How odd.

    2. Hearing my neighbour snoring. The walls are clearly far too thin.

    1) Show towels are weird.

    2) I am currently getting wound up about the hysteria over falling house prices, credit crunches etc. And fcuktardary on a vast scale from various quarters.

I don't have show towels (although my mum does, they're some frilly lacy thing which would make a rubbish towel anyway)

The thing that annoys me the most, old people who make queues in the bank on a saturday morning meaning i have to wait in line for ages. They are retired, can go whenever they want yet they choose to go on a saturday which is the only time i can go as i work during the week and don't have the chance to nip out at lunchtimes.

    2) (Copied from BT)
I was ready to bop Mr M last night, he really needs to pull his socks up! ?

Saying he will be off the pc by x time and still being on there half an hour later.

Starting to run a bath then going off to do something, leaving me to finish of the bath.

I asked him to take a vase of flowers downstairs for me, it took him a week and they had turned to seed. I left them to try to make a point.

Last night when I was clearing up, I found a little pile of four pairs of sweaty socks next to his computer. [xx(]

I caught him using my toothbursh last week. Apparently he isn't awake enough first thing to look at what toothbrush he is using.

    I think that's enough for now. ?

Show towels are common over here! I don't have any though, but have seriously thought about it .. then came to my senses! Thing is, everything is huge over here - and that includes the bathrooms. Which means there are surplus towel rails which easily accommodate show towels. Back home - never.

    What was the other question?!

Show-towels? well of course I have show towels. I would be most upset if any-one used them, much as I would be upset if they used the ornamental hand-soap that sits on the sink. if you want to dry your hands in our house there are some paper towels kept in the cupboard under the stairs, but don't you dare put them in the bin in the bathroom!

Yes Soph, info would still be great. ?

Actually something that did annoy me today was that the metro (and no doubt many other papers) saw fit to publish a picture of Kris Marshall (sp?), that BT ads actor that got hit by a car, lying on the pavement being tended to by paramedics. In a public space it may have been but still an invasion of privacy in my view.

? I have show towels [:I] But in my defence they are more part of a display! My bathroom is tiny so when we re-tiled I went for white everything with a thin purple border, so I bought purple towels (hardly bigger than a flannel) and have arranged them on the window sil with shells on to give a bit of colour. It looks nice I promise.

I don't have show towels but my mam does. Thing is she has had the same ones now for about 4 year and the sun has faded them and they look shit. ? Maybe I should tell her it's time to demote them to everyday towels and buy some new show towels.

Next door are bugging me. He parks his car so far on the pavement that I have watched 3 pushchairs having to walk on the road today because they can't get past. ETA some fools over on WP are irritating me today as well.

    1. I did have show towels when we were selling our last house. They were normal towels but matched and were clean and fluffy so they came out for viewings and then were put away until the next viewing.

    2. I'm annoyed by a supplier who is also a mate who is running extremely behind on a project he is doing for me at work. Its so unprofessional of him and affecting our friendship. And making me cross!

When we visited my brother in the US my SIL went mad that I'd used the towels in the bathroom. Apparently the nicely arranged Liz Claiborne towels were purely decorative and I was supposed to take one from the cupboard.

It was the same with the comforter on the bed, you had to remove it to sleep.

    1) I have no show towels. I have children and boys and anything for best don't mix. For that reason I have brown towels ?

    2) My complete ineptitude to do anything productive, including actual relaxing. It's driving me wild [V]

Point number 2 must make you want to relax the rules around point number 1 ?

    1. No I don't have show towels, or indeed, show anything
    2. Not being able to find anywhere to stay with the dog for 16 / 17 May while we're on a dog activity weekend. I can't believe everywhere dog friendly within a 20 mile radius is full ?
