Talking to my friend int he car on the way to work this morning we got chatting about showering and how long we take to have a shower. I take 20-30 minutes in the shower and have a routine, she took 30-45 minutes and also had a routine. Her H and my H take no more than 5 mins if that.

We then got onto the direction we faced when in the shower, we both face away from the shower head so shampoo could run down our backs when getting rinsed off, but we found our H's face the shower head and always get shampoo in their faces when rinsing.

It got us thinking, do women usually have a routine and take a long time in the shower, and do men generally face the shower head?

So questions.

How long to you take in the shower? and do you have a routine?

How long does your H / OH take in the shower? and does he face the shower head or not?

Wierdly dull I know but I need to know!

I take around 30-35 minutes(long thick hair), I do have a routine. I shampoo hair first and rinse, then condition it, whilst that's on I shave then wash, then comb hair and rinse.

H takes around 20 min and faces the shower head, whereas I face away from it.

I take 10 minutes to shower and that includes hair wash and condition, shaving and exfoliating. I have it down to a fine art now! I face away from the shower head to wash my hair. H takes about 5-10 minutes too and faces the shower head.

I cant understand what anybody could do for 45 minutes in the shower, except waste time and water!

H takes way longer in the shower than I do. I am in and out within 5 minutes although that is also linked to having my daughter in the bathroom at the same time and she gets bored if I am in the shower too long. H takes a good 15 minutes even for a short shower.

I do have a routine, not sure if H does.

I stand facing away from the shower head, H faces in towards the shower head.

I take about 5 mins if not washing my hair and about 15 mins if I am. Cannot think why anyone would need to spend 45 mins in the shower ?.

45 minutes in the shower - what the hell are you doing?

I struggle to be in there long enough to use both conditioner and hair glaze which stay on for 3-5 mins each.

I kind of have a routine, shampoo, apply conditioner, exfoliate (Body, face and feet) shave underarms, rinse conditioner and apply glaze, wash, apply in shower lotion, rinse hair. If I don't need to wash my hair then I need less than 5 minutes.

As for where I face, I face both ways, basically having whatever I'm washing facing the shower.

5 minutes if I'm not washing my hair, 10 minutes if I am

    I'm a twirler ?

I start off facing the shower, then turn my back on it to get my hair wet, then face it to rub in the shampoo, then back to rinse it, forward to shampoo again, back to rinse it, forward to put in the conditioner, back to wash my arms (in no particular order), body and legs, forward to hang up by body sponge thing, then back to rinse my hair

Then I give a quick cold water blast to my hair under the cold tap in the basin

H takes about 15 minutes, but washes his (long) hair every day, and stands with his back to the shower

I'm still trying to work out what someone does for 45 minutes!

I spend about 10 minutes - longer if I have to shave legs etc. My routine is wet hair & body, shampoo hair, rinse hair, condition hair, while conditioner is on wash body and shave legs if needed, rinse bubbles off, rinse conditioner off hair. And I always face away from the shower head. MrR is in, wash hair & body with same product while facing the shower head, out.

I take around 10-15 minutes, if just washing body and hair, 20 -25 if shaving. I face away from the shower head and do have a routine.

H takes around 30 mins and faces the shower head.

Why is it a waste of water to chill out in a long hot shower? ?

I love a long shower, its relaxing and a great way to start the day. I normally only take about 15 minutes each morning but there are times when I could stand under that water for ages.

I face away from the shower. I think I'd feel a bit claustraphobic facing the shower head. Mr Nora says he turns regularly whilst under the water and spends about 15 minutes in there too.

I probably take about 5 mins, and do face away from the shower.

H is about the same time, but he has no hair so no issue with the shampoo only shaving his head.

I spend 15 minutes in the shower (HE says I spend at least 20 in there) and face away from the shower head. Mr G spends 5 minutes and faces the shower head.

    My routine is as follows.

    • Turn shower on.
    • Load toothbrush with toothpaste.
    • Put toothbrush in mouth.
    • Get into shower.
    • Clean teeth while wetting hair.
    • Pause in teeth cleaning (leaving toothbrush in mouth) to get shampoo.
    • Shampoo hair with left hand while still cleaning teeth with right.
    • Lean out of shower, thereby soaking the floor, to put toothbrush on sink.
    • Rinse hair.
    • Put conditioner on hair.
    • Shave pits and legs
    • Pumice feet
    • Load flannel with showergel and clean from neck downwards, as far as ankles.
    • Take shower head out of holder to rinse my bits and bum.
    • Replace shower head.
    • Use facial scrub to clean face and neck
    • Rinse conditioner from hair.
    • Stand under shower for a few extra minutes while Mr G complains loudly.
    • Get out of shower.

Makes sense. If you leave soap on them by mistake they get sore. I like to be thorough.

I've been reading this thread with interest today, 45 mins?? Really?! ?

Anyway, I'd say I take about 20 mins every other day when I wash my hair etc (shower hose over bath, just drizzle - the water's cold by the time it hits my back!) as my hair is pretty long and VERY thick. Wash hair with shampoo x2, then condition, while conditioner's in, body wash and face wash.

The other days I just have a quick wash, but at weekends I have a scrub regime too (provided I can be arsed! ?) and I defuzz as well, obviously.

Can't believe I'm posting this, it's so boring. I have three shower modes:

    1. Getting ready for work lite: Hair up, jump in shower, wash face, squirt shower gel on net sponfge thing, scrub all over, rinse, out. About 7 minutes.

    2. Post-run: In shower, wet hair facing away from shower and wash face. Shampoo hair. Condition hair and comb through. Scrub all over with net thing or exfoliating gloves. rinse body and hair, luxuriating. 15 minutes-odd.

    3. Full service: As post-run but with leg shave. 15-20 minutes.

I turn around in the shower. It allows you to do both front and back. ?

I'm not sure what's more astonishing, the OP or the number of lengthy, straight-faced replies. ??

Shower sans hair wash: jump in, wash face, wash body, jump out. 5 minutes tops

Shower avec hair wash; as above but adding in hair wash and condition. 10 minutes tops.

Legs are shaved outside of the shower as we have a shower cubicle rather than an over-bath shower and I'm too big (pregnant, not lardy) to reach my legs in it.

Mr A can easily do 30 minutes in the shower, which grates on my somewhat due to the waste of water/power
