Showing your quirky side

JoannaD, 4 October, 2011 at 14:09 Posted on Planning 0 13

I'm kinda kooky and quirky but i want a traditional kind of day - theres nothing worse than looking back on your day and thinking... what the hell?!

but me and my weird and kooky friends and bridesmaids have this idea... we have a friend who was marrying an indian man a few months back and they had this really traditional indian wedding and the bride did this dance with some other ladies, traditional indian and beautiful dance display so we were thinking... considering i have scottish blood and both my bridesmaids do, why not do the slosh as a dance display for our guests...

its quirky and kooky and totally sums up my personality.

now a lot of the older members/sane members of my family wont get it but a lot will. do you think its a good idea to have some personality/quirk at my wedding or should i just lkeep it traditional?

And yes im one of thiose brides who will be found struggling to do the macerena, time warp, startrekkin, swamp feet, cotton eye joe at her reception in her wedding gown.

Looks fun and like it would be easy enough to do in your dress :-)

So you want to display how "quirky" and "kooky" you are by doing something traditional for a Scottish person? ☹️

Teasing aside, something personal and memorable is usually a good idea. Your whole wedding should reflect you and your partner's tastes. I would caution against doing it just because you think you are expected to do something odd, just for the sake of it. If it's relevant and/or personal, why not?

Why not? As long as it's done with a smile you can get away with almost anything.

Your day, your way. If that's what you both want, then go for it.

We had someone from our band playing a tune for us on a musical toilet at our wedding as a little interlude. It's certainly proven to be a talking point amongst our guests...

AJ! Did you not mind that pictures of Wills and Kate were stuck to the bog?

well I'm not Scottish, just have Scottish blood and its kinda a personal thing because i do the slosh every chance i can get and its become a running joke. i originally wanted it as the first dace but OH wont do it so we might either go for a traditional dance OR startrekking. As far as im aware people dont generally do the slosh as a traditional part of a scottish wedding at least not any scottish wedding ive been to. I just like the idea of me and a few nutcase bridesmaids doing something as a display.

Hmmm, it could probably work if you did it as a second dance and got everyone up. Wouldn't it look a bit wierd with just you and BMs? Chances of your guests joining in?
