Sing In or Out?!

2013_Bride_, 30 May, 2013 at 13:54 Posted on Planning 0 9

We have a singer for our church service, and she can either sing a song as I enter, or as we leave.

I just cannot decide which one I want!

I guess with entrance I'm worried about the length and it may have to be cut off or we will be stood at the top waiting for her to finish.

With the exit, I'm worried I will miss most of the song as we will be outside, but as our guests have to stay put until the photographer lets them out it might be nice for them.

Guess I'm also nervous that singing as I come in, in a church, is not a 'normal' thing and maybe it will draw attention from me (I don't mean that to sound as spoilt / brat like as it does, but hopefully you know what I mean).

Singer will also sing during signing of register and along with our hymns.

What would you do / can anyone think of anything else I need to consider that I perhaps haven't?

I don't think it will take anything away from you if she sings when you arrive. Could she maybe sing a verse or chorus from a song as you walk down the aisle and then do a full song when you exit? Esp if on your entrance she sang something that is significant to you and hubbie to be?

    Thanks.

I have 2 children (FG & PB) and 5 BM's to get down the aisle, then me and my Dad. Not sure how it will take so that will obviously alter the song length

Hadn't thought of a chorus - its certainly something to consider!

We do have a special song and thats why I think it would be nice, as it makes it more 'personal' but then in the next breath I'm debating it again.

Why are decisions so hard? Smiley smile

I had a choir while we were walking in. The song I chose was really long so the vicar was given a nod by the choir's conductor and the vicar signalled to the bridesmaids to start walking in. As it happened, he got it wrong and we ended up standing at the aisle for ages!

Can you time how long it'll take to walk down the aisle, time the song and work it from there? She could start slightly earlier and you could work out a point in teh song when you need to start walking in.

Thanks Knees. Going to church in a few weeks so will do some timings then!

Guess my main worry is everyone will watch the singer perform instead of ME! And then before you know it - ill be at the top of the aisle and they will be like 'oh, there she is!' HA.

Trust me, they won't. But that's another advantage of having the singer start a bit before you come in - they'll be able to watch her for a minute or so and then watch you. All eyes will be on the bride don't you worry!

The singer wont distract anything from your entrance we have sung at hundreds of ceremonies over the years and never once has it distracted the brides entrance, it actually makes more impact.

We usually perform 2 songs while guests are waiting, a song for the entrance, 2 songs for signing of the register and a song for the exit Smiley smile

I am hoping to have a piano version of a favorite song played as I enter the church & then whilst signing the register have the song sang! As we are coming out of the registry I want so g bird sang just as the doors open, we have quite a long aisle so I figure I'll get to hear the main bit & then will be nice for guests wile their waiting on us getting our photo taking at the doors!

I'm thinking depending on the song, singing on the way out as hairs will be on the back of peoples necks as you've just got married and a nice tune will get everyone crying with joy Smiley winking Very Hollywood movie eh!
