Sinusitis

Clairy, 12 January, 2009 at 16:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Argh, I feel like I have been intermittently punched in the eye / have toothache. I am really miserable. I have taken Sinutab, but any idea how long this will last? Is there anything else I can do? ?

Sorry to be so needy ?

    You have my sympathy!

I find steam is a god send, when I'm bad I try and steam around 8 times a day for 5-10 minutes. Just a bowl of water is fine, or add some Karvol or if you are a long term sufferer then I'd recommend one of these http://www.vicks.com/products/steam-inhalers

Avoid all dairy, it thickens the mucus and makes it much worse. I also find that massage helps, sort of pushing the gunk from the sides of your noses towards your ears.

    It's truly horrid!

I've just taken delivery of a nasal spray called sinus buster (www.sinusbuster.com) as it was recommended to me by a work colleague who is a fellow sinus sufferer. Trouble is I am too scared to try it as I KNOW it will burn (spray is capsicain based)...........

For mine I take paracetamol and ibuprofen, Otrivine nasal spary (decongestant) and I also find that heat helps too. I warm an eye mask as hot as I can stand, wrap it in thin material (like a clean facecloth or similar) and put it on the places it hurts the most.

Horrible and loads of people seem to be suffering this year.

Steam head with Olbas Oil and heat mask on face.

If you start feeling sick/very dizzy visit your GP as you may have an infection and need antibiotics.

    Hope you're feeling better soon

Sterimar works really well. Its a sterile sea water nasal spray and does not hurt and is gentle when being sprayed in. You can get it in Tescos, boots or any other good chemist.

Use it with Otrivine but use it before the otrivine.

Urgh, you have my sympathy. I've never had anything so painful as sinusitis, and that includes childbirth.

If you get an excessive amount of thick green gunk coming from one (or both) nostrils and it smells rotten, then get antibiotics. Sinusitis is quite hard to clear apparantly, due to it's inexcessability.

Thank you for all the love, sympathy and ideas, it's much appreciated. More than I get from my horrible lot ?

I will try some of those suggestions, thank you. It's not green, gunky or smelly, just blooming painful. I had the flu just before Christmas and haven't shrugged off the snotty stuff yet. Nice. ?
