Skincare Regime

fancyfree, 2 December, 2009 at 22:00 Posted on Planning 0 10

With a little over 4 months to the wedding now, I think I need to get my skin sorted.

It's fairly trouble-free, but I have outbreaks round my mouth (mainly due to my nibbling my nails - something else to kick before the wedding). I had my first ever facial last week and it was lovely and I noticed a difference. She told me to drink lots of water and get a regime underway. Which is lovely, but I don't want to spend £200 on 'product'.

So what is your regime, your beauty tips and your cost-saving exercises?

(so far this winter my personal tips are Body Shop 'Lip Scuff' and Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream to keep lips soft and keep dry skin at bay)

I have to admit that I'm not into beauty routines but I only use dove body/hand wash as I think the extra moisteriser helps and I always use baby oil on my skin straight after a bath or shower which keeps my skin soft, (that & boots strawberry body scrub on special occasions!!).

In the run up to my wedding I'd like to get back into using a body brush to get my circulation going and buff up my legs & arms.

I have really sensitive skin, so I can't use soap. I use aqueous cream to cleanse my face, then a moisturiser afterwards. My skin is really really soft and I (touch wood) very rarely get spots.

If I'm feeling extravagant I'll use a cleanser for sensitive skin but tbh the awqueous cream is probably better and cheaper

I'm in my late 50's so need to keep wrinkles at bay too LOL! My skin is very sensitive too and I'm prone to red blotchiness which is a side effect of HRT (so I'm told) so I have to use very mild products. My main regime is washing with soap and water (I use Morrisons Baby Soap - brilliant for sensitive skin) I also use Avon Skin Clear Exfoliator once a fortnight just for a deep clean. I'm an Estee Lauder girl so on a morning I use their Resilience Lift Ultra Firming lotion followed by their make up. On an evening, I make sure every trace of make up is removed otherwise I suffer from outbreaks instantly! After washing on an evening, I use their eye cream and a light moisturiser and that's it really.

I try to drink at least 3 pints of water a day which really does help your skin and have a fairly sensible diet. Because I've inherited high cholestrol off my Mum, I am not allowed fried or fatty foods so this also helps!

Every other month, I treat myself to a Crystal facial exfoliating session at the beauty salon which removes the top two layers of skin to reveal new skin underneath. It's brilliant and I've been having it done for quite a few years. It costs around £30 but well worth it - this is me now - don't think I look toooooo bad for my age LOL! !

I have a bit of a regime, lol, but as I'm a student I also don't like to spend too much.

I use Clarins products, which are a bit more expenxive than some but last such a long time I think it's totally worth it! I use their cleanser, toner, and moisuriser once a day and exfoliate once a week (should do twice a week but I'm lazy, lol). That keeps my skin pretty clear, other than the odd spot once every few months.

I've also had microdermabrasion and a facial at a local spa which was lovely as a treat but I personally didn't feel it made much of a diiference to my skin other than it feeling a bit smoother. Had I more money, this is something I may do more regularly though.

I've heard great things about the Clinique 3 step cleanser, toner, and moisturiser too but never used it personally.

Edited to add: The best thing you can do for your skin is to thoroughly remove all make-up before bed!

I swear by the clinique 3 step - cleanse tone and mosturise.

Its not that expensive and lasts me a long time - i would also try having some saunas to deep cleanse the skin

Another one here for the clinique 3 step system. have been using it for a good few years and never found anything near as good. i ask for it for christmas or my birthday as it can be a bit expensive (about £60 for all the large size products)

if you go into your local dept store, i'm sure you can always ask the ladies at the counter for a few samples to take away. might not be the greatest system if you have mega sensitive skin though as the toner can be quite harsh...?

I suffer quite badly with hormonal achne break outs (never happened til i hit my 20s). I have tried pretty much every skin care regime on the market pretty much from vv expensive to boots own brand.

I used clinique for two years but found it pretty ineffective and have since been told by many professional people that it is a complete waste of money. I currently use body shop tea tree anti blemish facial wash (about £5), tea tree cleanser. Note i dont use a moistuiser as it always brings me out in spots only if my skin is feeling tight.

I also swear by Lush fresh face masks. Again i use anti blemish one (the other ones are also vv good) but that product is absolutly brilliant is you suffer a breakout (costs about £5 a pot for approx 6 masks). Only downfall is it has to live in the fridge as its made from all natural products and does have an expiry of approx 2-3 weeks.

Witch hazel gel/stick is the best on spot treatment (£5) by far. I always have this in my house and have sworn by it for years. No other products even touch the effectiveness of this. Sometimes this works within 2-3hours depending on severity of spot.

I don't drink hot drinks and pretty much drink 1-2litres of water a day.

    Bonjour!

My regime: Origins Checks & Balances cleanser in the morning followed by a cheap as chips moisturiser from Sainsbugs avec Origins Youthtopia eye cream. In the evening I use Eve Lom's cleanser (super duper stuff - espesh the regime you follow) followed by eye cream and a dollop of moisturiser again. Also use Eve Lom's kiss mix - it's super Smiley smile

Also use Origins Modern Friction micro dermabrasion-doowiggy once a week too.

I try and get facials once every coupla months.

I'd avoid Clinique's skincare if you have sensitive skin as it's highly perfumed. I used Clarifying Lotion 4 to take nail varnish off when I worked in cosmetics! Lady on Clinique hated me for it! I'd recommend L'Occitane, Eve Lom and Origins skincare.

Liz Earle and Origins do good spot treatment sticks. I'd also use muslin cloths to remove cleanser which gently exfoliates your skin too.

I've used heaps of different brands as I worked in the industry for a while and I'm also a Grade A make-up/ skincare magpie.

Hth and you find something that works for you. Origins are especially good at giving you samples to try out - I ❤️ them!

Aw cheers Spangles! I always say if you think young, you will stay young and that's always been my philosphy in life - my head thinks I'm still 25 and I'm still a big kid at heart LOL!
