Sky+ HD - anyone upgrade to it?

Mrs S Smith, 24 March, 2009 at 16:07 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Hi all, quick question:

If you've upgraded to Sky+ HD recently, how much did you pay?

Spoken to 3 different people the last few weeks, and called up today to basically go ahead and book the package. I'd previously given them all the same details as before; current customer, we're moving to a new address, want to upgrade, bla bla. Previously we were quoted £49 for the box, and £30 for the installation. However, today I was quoted £49 for the box, and then £60 for the installation, because I was moving?

Has anyone else had to pay this? I'm thinking about trying to pull the loyalty card and see if they'll knock it off, but just wondered if they're trying it on to begin with?

Virgin isn't an option where we're moving to and BT VIsion doesn't really appeal, not sure if we can even get Freeview.. Most of our neighbours all have Sky dishes on the outside of their homes..

We've recently had it installed but were new customers. We paid £49 for box, installation was free and got £100 cashback with Quidco.

    Thanks all!

In that case, I'm going to get on the phone tonight and see about them giving me the £30 for installation and see if I can pull the loyalty card.. I think it's ridiculous that we should have to pay for a new dish etc, when the current property we're in (rental) came with a dish, but we still had to pay for installation etc.. But that's beside the point ?

Our old Sky was in my H's name and they wanted to charge a fortune to upgrade so we cancelled his sub and took out one in my name as a new customer and got a free box and just had to pay £30 to have it installed.

    Could you do something similar?

Oooh, interesting.. I would do that, but I think H has had an account previously at his ex's address, so I don't think he can rejoin as a "new" customer, IYSWIM?

Definitely threaten to cancel then as my H has been inundated with offers to tempt him back including a free box and £30 installation

Thinking about it. TV died last year and we bought a HD one.
Sky + box died, we got one of those reconditioned ones for £60, it's now out of warranty and has died. Reset it once, died again.
Surely they twig if you set up in partner's name, if it's at the same address?
Their website says £30 installation, maybe £60 in unusual circumstances. Speaking to someone at Sky she said they offer 1 free install per customer when you first join, you have to pay for all further ones.
If you're moving, I'd go for setting up a new one in partner's name, and get the free installation Smiley winking

Sky didn't question it at all - it was the Sky + salesman who recommended that we do that to get a free box!

We had similar when we moved in here 2 years ago. Had a sky a/c in my maiden name at old address and wanted to upgrade to sky+. I'd seen an offer that was too good to miss but it applied to new customers only so I told the CS person I wanted to cancel and then set up a new a/c in married name and new address. She went to speak to supervisor then told me they didn't want me to have to go to all that trouble and they'd give me the special offer plus a free installation to boot. I was gobsmacked and in a good way ?

Am now thinking of that refer a friend offer to get sky HD and the M&S vouchers...
