Sleep advise/opinions (drs?)

Kimmysue, 2 April, 2008 at 18:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

This may be very hard to explain but I will try - i'll try not to let it get too long.

Every couple of weeks while trying to fall asleep, something very strange happens to me.

Everything seems to go into forward mode.

Any thought in my head are very fast, any movement I make are fast even tho im moving normally. My breathing is very fast. Blinking - everything.

If H moves, talks etc it is like someone has hit fast forward on a remote control.

This happes when I am trying to go to sleep. If I open my eyes to stop it, it dosnt help, and dosnt stop until im asleep, and everything is ok in the morning.

Wednesday was the worst it has ever been, H was on a night shift and it is the 1st time it actually scared me.

Any ideas? Should I go and see someone?

Thanks

Thank god - I thought I was the only one!

This used to happen to me as a kid. For me, it was like, all the noises I could hear got very loud, even tiny little ones like my heartbeat. And time seemed to be whizzing by really fast, voices sounded speeded up and sometimes I would hear particular snippets of speech speeded up and on a loop. (this is hard to explain isn't it?!)

It used to freak me out something rotten, and like you it only went away when I fell asleep. When I awoke, everything was normal. I did grow out of mine though, it no longer happens and hasn't for years.

I took a module in 'Sleep and its disorders' last year as part of my 3rd year psychology degree and searched in vain for something like this! I'm no doctor though, and if it is bothering you maybe you could go see your GP?

Sorry, don't have any advice but this used to happen to me. It's a very weird feeling. It was as if I'd pressed x2 button on the remote. I remember asking OH once if I was talking faster than normal as in my head I was (I wasn't) ?

It hasn't happened for a few years.
