I'm only quitting ON the day purely because a) I don't want my dress to smell smokey and b) my mother still doesn't know I smoke. I'm 26 years old and scared of my mum finding out I smoke........!

Sammy jay i was exactly the same. I gave up smoking within a week of being engaged.

    1. I changed my routine. H was renting a smoke free house but I would smoke in the kitchen when I was there. I'd come home from school, make a cuppa and sit at kitchen table with a cig. So, instead id come home and go straight to the living room and wait a while before making that cuppa.

    2. I used patches for a while but when my skin reacted to them depending on strength then I used the mint lozenges. I liked them and they didnt give me hiccups like the gum did. They were definately a good buy...

    3. I gave up drinking. A fag and a glass was like a cuppa and a biccy...... so It was easier not to drink. if I went to any social occassion I took my nicorette inhaler which was fabulous, i swear by them.........I can now drink and not associate it with smoking and I dont have to stand in the cold anymore, hoorah!

    4. On a pals hen night i crumbled and asked for a fag. I had one drag and spat it out, hated the taste. That was in 2008......

I now dont like being near smokers....weird huh?

I'm planning on giving up after the wedding. OH keeps nagging at me. The best thing i've tried was the e-cig. I can never go more that 2 days without one and dont have much willpower. Dont think i could do it before the day as the build up is pretty stressful.

Thats why I thought I'd do it now, gives me year smoke free before the real stress starts lol

I've gradually cut down from 30 a day 2 years ago to 3 a day and I just thought really whats the point, especially as to cut costs i switched to rollies which even with a filter make me feel like poop and look like a chav ?

Yes, Elizabeth - thats the one. I got one a while ago from good old ebay, used it for a few days but went back to the proper ones.

acey - i dont think it'll be any use me quitting now with the days ticking away. I have gradually cut also. I use to have about 20 a day, but now its more like 8-10 depending on what kind of day i've had.

The problem i have is that when i'm busy i'm fine and wont have many. Buts its when i get bored or have nothing to do or have lazy days and i'll have more. if i'm at work i'll only have probably 4-5 until i finish about 5pm - which doesnt particulaly bother me because i'm constantly busy.

I would love to. But i would worry that if i tried now then i would pile on loads of weight and not get into my dress. H2B has told me not even to attempt it until after the wedding cos he doesnt want Bridezilla/DesperateForFag girl for the next 3 months...lol.

Going by my past attempts i will need to get pregnant with baby number 4 for it to work. With all three of mine i gave up without even trying. Even managed to stay off them until my youngest reached 4 months old. Should never have started again. Smiley sad

I smoke outside and not in front of my children before anyone asks. x

I did that with mine. Think it was the maternal instinct kicking in. I found out i was pregnant and didnt even want to touch them again. Until he was about 3-4 months old - then i started again. starting to wish i hadnt

I quit when I moved in with my OH, but it wasn't easy. I used gum, but in the end I found that one piece of gum was actually too much and had to cut them in half! I put all the money I would have spent on cigarettes into a jar, and at £3 a day it soon mounted up. I bought my OH a present after a month, then the second month I bought myself a necklace.

Really the only way to stop smoking is to stop - forget the cutting down, or only having one after meals or sex, or only smoking down the pub. But the best benefit is not having that screaming craving when you can't have a fag.

Top tip - every time you want a fag drink a glass of water, it gives you something to do and distract yourself. It's will also help you to not replace fags with snacks.

Tee hee, I think ex-smokers are worse than non-smokers! I actually find myself screwing my nose up and coughing if I pass someone in the street who is smoking and it's not that I'm being rude, just the smell turns my stomach. I gave up when we got engaged. I was given an ultimatum - stop smoking or we won't get married - simple as! All the money I used to spend on cigarettes went into the wedding fund account and I couldn't believe how quickly it built up (and also was ashamed and appalled at all the money I had sent up in smoke over the years) I was a chain smoker who smoked all day at work - never seen without a fag burning away in the ashtray (Going back to 1979 here!) I took tablets called Nicobrevin - not sure if they're still around but were excellent. I stopped instantly and didn't have any cravings but was utterly lost what to do with my hands. I realised I had to do something drastic to stop me failing so I avoided upstairs on the bus and sat downstairs with the oldies, stopped going out to the pub for the timebeing, and took up sewing again - in fact I made my wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses! After about 3 weeks, I got my sense of smell back OMG! Did I really live in a house that stunk so foul! Ugh! I took out all the clothes in the wardrobes and washed and drycleaned everything. All the curtains came down, cushion covers, carpets were Shaked and Vac'D everything. That was 30 year ago and I've never touched a fag since. Best thing I ever did.

    BEWARE!!!

I gave up a year ago. Bought my dress - it fit! Then I piled on a stone in weight and have spent months trying to lose the weight, giving up fags, wine and good food is hard hard work

Good Luck though. Its been just over a year and never felt better, even if I am still a dress size bigger!
