Slightly O/T waxing

Morrigan, 21 April, 2008 at 21:24 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi all

I've never had a professional wax before and I'd like to get one before the wedding but I don't know how far before to get it done. Would 2-3 days be best or would about 9 days before be ok? We're only having a couple of days off after the wedding so don't need to be smooth for a long honeymoon after.

TIA ?

I was thinking legs and brazilian. I don't think my hair's particularly coarse, but then I don't have much to compare it to ?

If you can, I would really recommend getting a wax done as a trial well before your wedding. I have got quite coarse hair and when I had my bikini line done for the first (and only!) time, I reacted really badly - I came out in a really bad red rash, which was very painful and itchy![:I]

You may well be fine (I think my reaction was rare!) but I really wouldn't want that any time near my wedding!

Hate to spoil the party guys, but unless you wax already at home, and especially if you currently shave your legs, you're unlikely to get a good result first time round. I would recommend going for once a month for a few months before you get married. In terms of how soon to get it done before the wedding, make sure it is a couple of days to let the chicken skin effect totally go down.

Darn, I had thought about having a trial but money's pretty tight so was hoping not to have to. Thanks for the warning though, useful to know. Guess I'd better get one booked pretty soon then. ?

I have had a bikini wax before and it didn't last as long as I expected. I get married in October and plan to go for my first leg wax this thursday (if I dont chicken out). I want to see how long it will last and how long it takes any reaction to go down.

I'm getting my legs, underarms, eyebrows, lip and bikini all waxed on the day before the wedding (9am!). It needs to last for the honeymoon too so I wanted to get it done as close to the wedding as possible.

I'd imagine it'll last about 2 weeks before I need to shave the odd leg hair and under my arms.

I'd say if you have never had it done before, go for a trial run now and see how you get on, the last thing you want is to react to the wax a week before the wedding!

I only get my eyebrows waxed now as I can't stand being hairy waiting until the hairs are long enough but I always come out in little spots for the next few days so for me I would get waxed on the Wed/Thurs if my wedding was the Sat. My skin is also really sensitive and it takes a few days for the redness to go down. My legs didn't ever go spotty just my eyebrows and bikini line but if you are only having your legs and bikini doen then it's not like your guests will see any redness!! ?

I use an epilator thing at home which I use every few weeks on my legs then planning on having a wax a few days before the wedding as the epilator tends to miss bits (especially because I'm impatient!), but it means that the wax should 'work' a bit better I hope!

    Hello Morrigan ?

My advice re. having a wax would be about how you prepare for it, as rather than when you have it done (although I think that 2-3 days is better than 9 days before the wedding as you'll get some regrowth in that time).

I would exfoliate the areas a day or two before the wax, and a couple of days after to help prevent any in-growing hairs.

Also, make sure you and the wax therapist both agree on what a brazilian is...my idea of a brazilian was very different to the Polish woman I went to see a month ago and I ended up looking like a pre-pubescant girl, bar a tiny triange at the top!! I left thinking she may as well have taken it all off, all the while wishing H2B wouldn't notice ?

I have a brazilian (hollywood) and my legs waxed every 4 - 5 weeks. If you do this regularly you will really start to see the difference in hair regrowth. Definitely go for a trial before hand though - you really don't want to be walking around on your wedding day with a rash! If you don't react too badly I would say to have it done 2 - 3 days before the wedding. Best advice I had was to take a couple of ibuprofen tablets about 45 minutes before - it really helps! I found also that having my legs waxed actually hurts more than the brazilian so don't be scared it's not that painful HTB's reaction will make it well worth it I'm sure x

If you have never been waxed before you definately need to have a trial and you also need to get into a routine of having it done regularly as someone else said, the first time you will not get a good result. Likewise, if you had a wax now, then shaved in between, then had a wax prior to your wedding, it would not be a good result!

Do you definately want a brazillian? I have it done regularly, but that was after years of waxing and it does really hurt the first time, although dies down after a while. I suffer quite badly with ingrowing hairs and the first 3/4 times I had a brazillian these were really bad, but got better over time.

Also, you may react to the wax. I can only have cream or tea tree wax, the honey wax brings me out in a terrible rash which lasts for about a week, then once that's gone I get terrible ingrowing hairs, so never get a good result with a honey wax
