Small and intimate?

Fletcherette, 9 January, 2012 at 18:27 Posted on Planning 0 7

So the h2b and I have decided on a very small wedding. We both have huge families and a big circle of friends and between us we would have to invite nearly 200 if we were going to invite everyone we wanted and needed there... and we really can't afford that so we are going complete opposite and having just a handful of our closest family.

Just wondering if anyone else is having a small intimate wedding or am I the only one?

We're in a similar situation. My family alone comes to around 60-70 people. If we could invite everyone we wanted we would be looking at 200-250.

Once we've figured out our budget, we'll either be doing what you are and having a very small intimate wedding or somewhere in between...Unless I win the lottery that is.

I'm sure you won't be the only one. ?

I think ours is going to be small and intimate. Close family, maid of honour/Partner and best men/partners made 24 people. However h2b has also decided to chose closest friends and partners which brings it to 34, which I still think is goin to be intimate.

We have chosen a small room and will have the top table and they 4 other tables.

Does a wedding party of 4 count? (me, H2b, priest, hotel co-ordinator as witness)

Reception will be 70-ish people, a month later. Last thing I want is a big wedding. If I had my way, we'd marry in our local church, with friends/family, but come straight out of church into a car en route to the airport. I don't want people cooing over me and taking photos. Ugh. Naturally that's not practical, hence eloping instead!

I feel exactly the same!!! I hate the idea of walking down the aisle in a packed church and everyone in the place turning to look at me! So not being able to afford a huge wedding actually suits me fine lol ? I can't wait for my tiny wedding ?

h2b and I have talking about having a party a few weeks later, will you be wearing your dress to your reception? will it be a sit down meal or just a buffet and evening party?

Intimate for us, fourteen of us buggering off to Gretna Green, no arguments over any relatives who we never see coming etc. Having a party when we get back. Still doing it formally with reception meal and getting married in ex catholic church which is beautiful.

I will be wearing the dress, yes. Still debating whether or not to change out of it later in the evening. We're doing a very basic hog roast and ceilidh, nothing formal, and evening only.

We are having small and intimate - there will be us, our 2 sons, my PIL, my nan and her OH, and 2 couples who are close friends.

We will be having a party when we return though.
