Snow in Reading. We had 6 inches fall in 4 hours last by 10.00pm and it's still snowing! ?

Today I am "working from home". I sense a lunchtime snowman ?

Well, we've been told here that we'll be having a snow day tomorrow so I have about an hours worth of work to do at home (it can be done in bed on the laptop - woo!)

The downside is that I don't think I'll get my food delivery if the snow is as bad as they say it will be - boo!

Started snowing heavily here on the Essex coast this morning. My school is closing shortly as it's getting really heavy and the roads are getting dangerous! A half Snow Day! Hopefully it will be closed tomorrow!

Lots of snow here, still snowing! H2B had to drive 40 miles over ungritted roads this morning and had to be towed TWICE by tractors!

I got to the office, closed. So went through town with my camera on the way home.

First stop was Marks and Spencer. Anyone seen Dawn of the Dead? I got a bit freaked out and had to leave when I realised I was the only shopper

Today was the day the Christmas trees were supposed to be collected. I felt a bit like the Christmas trees were having one last hurrah as they stood all lopsided outside the houses:

    Snowy loveliness:

Not a huge amount but it has been on and off all morning and we weren't meant to have any until 3pm according to BBC weather! Still wouldn't say more than an inch though

Well we woke up to about 4 inches of snow and it hasn't stopped all morning - now up to about 6 at least, they finally closed the office officially at 1pm but we are meant to be "working from home" if we can...

Not sure what will happen tomorrow... snow holiday methinks!

No more snow since last night here in Aylesbury but the snow is a couple of inches thick & most of the schools here have closed. On a good day it takes me & my colleague 40 mins to get into school using country lanes so of course there was no way that we could have got in this morning & its our job to phone the deputy head to say if we cannot get in & then they close if more than 7 or 8 staff cannot make it in. Later in the morning i checked to see what it said about the school closing, most said the school was closed due to the snow & safety of staff and children this is what was`posted for our school: 'School closed due to adverse weather conditions and inability of so many staff to travel.' Is it being being senstive or does that sound like teachers couldn't be bothered to get in!

Nah, I think it really means that staff are truly unable to get in. A lot of parents think that because the children can get to school it should be open. Many don't realise that a lot of teachers commute a fair distance (mainly to avoid being recognised off duty ;-))

Thanks for your reply, it is true that lots of teachers don't live in the same area as they teach.

Snowed loads again over night in hereford, OH had to walk to work this morning. we've probably got about 4-5 inches here i think but the mains roads are apparently fine according to my mum, just her lane is awful and so is our estate. sun's shining now so im hoping it will melt enough for sainsburys to deliver my shopping on friday!

We had 3-4" last night & it kept up until about 2pm. The whole of Bristol seemed to shut down by 8am! all buses suspended. Motorways down to one lane, roads closed.

We've been out for a lovely Birthday walk for my daughter who is 22 today, all through the woods & to the river. I am so lucky to have this on my doorstep some lovely scenery:

Wow some gorgeous piccies here, ladies.

well no snowfall for us. Hubby left house at 6.55am. At 7.05 he called from the end of the farm road to say the Jeep had just spun 360 on sheer ice and I was to be very careful.

    Gulp.

So i toodled off down the drive, went to drive up a wee hilly bit and the wheel spun and spun and spun and spun......so, i walked back to the house, grabbed the cat litter and went back to the car and sprinkled cat litter under the wheels.

I was still skating everywhere but I got up the hill.....going down the farm road was another matter and it was like ooooo Field or Ditch, which to choose????? Apparantly we are due a huge snow dump in the early hours tomorrow. I'm at another country school and despite the motorways being relevantly clear i'm very tempted to say nooooooooooooooooo.

anyhoo thats my snow report for my neck of the woods. No pictures.

Suddenly got a huge snow shower at about half 3 so we all upped sticks and left. A 10 minute journey took nearly an hour which I don't think is too bad overall in these conditions. Still, there were some absolute nobbers driving like the roads were clear! Just pleased both OH and I are home. Hoping shopping can still be delivered tomorrow or my diet will be ruined by having to walk down the road for chinese!

Hi Shwayney we measured the snow in our garden to be 8cm but it hasn't snowed for most of the day. I believe the main roads haven't been too bad but I must admit that although I like looking out of the window at the snow I don't like being out in it so haven't been out today so only know that our cul de sac in watermead has thick snow.

Even though no more snow its all gonna turn to ice tonight when it hits -7 so just making the decesion not to go in tomo which will hopefully result in the school closure for tomo

Brrrrrrrrrrr -10 in Bristol this morning when I got up & reports of -17 down the rd in Yeovil. The snow is now iced solid & deadly. My son has been on the bus stop for work & come back as they are running but to no timetable. He had to come back to warm up before he attempted to get into work again. The road outside is just a sheet of ice.

Be careful girls it is treacherous & more snow & colder temps forecast for the weekend.
