So angry with myself UPDATED

Lumpy Golightly, 4 May, 2009 at 15:11 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

I'd put my glasses down on a nail-polish remover wipe and it's taken all the bronze-coloured finish off the frames. They look such a mess but I'm going to have to wear them until I can get some more. The insurance people can't tell me if my policy covers my specs because it's bank holiday, and although I am in a cash-back scheme (BHSF) I'm not entitled to claim through them because I had new glasses last year and it's a two-yearly entitlement. Bugger and damnation.

UPDATE: Well, today I picked up TWO new pairs from Tesco (hurrah for BOGOF). One pair is VERY similar to my lovely but wrecked specs and the other pair is a bit plainer and a bit chunkier. I also received an email from my insurance company confirming that they ARE covered by my policy, so I'll get my money back. Thanks for being sympathetic last week when I felt rubbish about it xx

    Oh no - how annoying.

Can you try tidying it up with a bit more nail-polish remover? or would that just make it worse?

I know some glasses-wearing hitchers have managed to get some great glasses for not much money at all, by buying online, but I have no idea where from I'm afraid. Hopefully one of them will see this!

More nail-polish remover would definitely make it worse. I have however had a look at the Tesco optician's website and it looks like they have a pair similar to mine for £35, and another pair I like for £60. Guess I'm just going to have to 'treat' myself.

? And, have you had the "if you'd trown the wipe away this wouldn't have happened" comment yet?

    Who are you insured with?

Could you try touching them up with some bronze coloured seal or something?

Select and Protect. No, not had that remark, but did get a look which I think said the same. Gingey Wife, I really want to try them on. I've bought online before but I wasn't 100% happy. Also, I can't find my prescription and Tesco have it, so may as well go there first. Thanks for the suggestion though.

It's an option - I need to find a close match but it might do. I did look to see if I had a suitable nail polish, but they're either too gold or too red.

If its any consoltion I was trying to check my emails whilst painting my nails and got nail polish over me, my mum's desk and my laptop so the latter two have nice pink sparkly splodges as I'm not brave enough to take the remover to them. Good luck with the glasses, hopefully you may get some good news from the insurance people tomorrow when they are open.

Just a quick word from someone who used to work in insurance claims - if it's a standard policy and you have added accidental damage cover and it happened in the home it should be covered but what an annoying thing to happen Smiley sad
