So I bought a dress, hated it, liked it....

Mispinkprincess, 18 June, 2014 at 12:49 Posted on Planning 0 32

And now I've bought a new one! I'll flash the old one first then the new one. It's slightly too big around the boobs but will order a smaller size to try too but anyway, thoughts?

Second one makes you look half the size and is so much more interesting/unusual! Great choice.

I like both but they suggest different weddings to me. What flowers are you having, or what colour are your bridesmaids wearing to give us an idea of the rest of the 'look'!

I like them both but prefer the first one. They're such different styles though! What's the rest of your wedding like? The second looks more of a vintage style to me - will it fit in with everything else?

Definitely the second for me Smiley smile

I dont mean to be rude but first impression of the 'lace' one was cheap 'china' dress as it doesn't look like it fits right (rippling round waist) and the material in the photo looks cheap (like my nanas old curtains) plus the belt not sitting straight is playing havoc with my OCD

the other flatters you nicely and looks much better quality in the picture, it fits the shape of your body and hugs the right places (or will when altered)

p.s looking at the first again I just realized my nearly 90 year old Nana has/had a 'party' dress similar to that, I use to try it on when I was younger so it also feels more suited to an 'older' lady to me

Definitely the second one. The first is nice, but it doesn't look like it fits quite right. The second one looks lovely!

I think the second one is absolutely stunning on you! I personally think the first one could be worn by anybody and in my opinion doesn't really come across as a wedding dress. I agree with the comments already made where they have asked on the rest of your wedding but I would personally fit my wedding around my dress!! Smiley smile

Definitely the second one... it's so much more flattering to your figure and looks gorgeous. The first one is nice but the second one just looks like it was made for you.

Tbh - I'm not keen on the bust line on no 2. It looks like it's displaying your bra/boobs to me - sorry, but agree it seems to show your figure well. I do generally prefer no 2 over no 1 though.

Photo's like these can be so difficult though as often the true picture isn't reflected. I think you've used a different angle and perhaps a different mirror which means we're not necessarily seeing the two fairly compared.

Also agree with a previous comment about what theme you're having as they are very different dresses. No 1 says more old vintage, whereas no 2 is quite contemporary vintage if that makes sense.

I'd totally retake the photos and make sure they matched if you're trying to make a decision between the two. After what Pammy said, I relooked at the photos. You've taken the second one as a selfie in a vertical free standing mirror. BIG MISTAKE.

I look like a size 8 in selfies in vertical mirrors (I'm 12-14) - I took one once and laughed my head off! A friend of mine routinely takes them in a vertical mirror and posts them on facebook looking like a size 14. It's really confusing as she's a size 18 in reality.

Get a chum over to your place at the weekend, and do matching photos, in heels, petticoats etc. Then you'll really be able to compare.

You've got an AWESOME blue petticoat on with the second dress, but it looks like you need a petticoat on with the first one, but don't have it on? (or it's maybe just not big enough?).

I like both dresses btw, but am in love with the blue petticoat and blue shoe detail ❤️

Sorry at my in laws sp not easy to keep up. I have lost a stone and 1/2 since the first picture. The first picture is without alterations, the belt was just me holding ribbon so not sewn in. No petticoats on the first either as it was too long and heavy. Not sure if I've answered all questions

My daughter has the second dress in black for her graduation and I like it very much as it's flattering.

BUT as has been stated before it depends what look you want to go for, the first dress suggest bridal but you won't feel comfortable in it until you've had it fitted. The second dress is lovely and the petticoat is really pretty and it also fits you properly which is probably why you feel and look so much more comfortable.

I would have the first one fitted and then make a decision, it really does depend on whether you want lace or plain...

Well done on your weight loss!

I like both (sorry not terribly helpful) but the way you're standing in the second pic suggests to me that you feel like a million dollars in it, so for that reason I'd go for number 2. You have to be happy and feel fab.

The second one is more unusual but it looks fantastic on you and makes a statement. The first one is still very nice and would suit a traditional wedding. Me personally, I'd go for the second x

Well done on your weight loss - you look incredible! My opinion hasn't changed - the second one makes you look a million dollars and by the photo it looks as if you feel it too! Also, now seeing your bridesmaid dresses, I think the second dress makes it all tie in together and I'm sure a pearl bouquet will match beautifully too - maybe you could add in some matching blue pearls/brooches to carry the theme through. I hope you manage to make your decision and are happy with whatever you choose!! Also remember if you get the first dress altered to fit it will be much harder to sell on if you decide not to use it!! Good luck!!

I think if you've lost that amount of weight then you really do need to take an earlier suggestion and have a friend take a picture of you in both (even with clips holding the back of the bigger dress like they do in wedding shops if needs be - although make sure you won't snag the lace!).

I really like the blue accents and I don't see why you couldn't put the petticoat under the lace one. I think the only way you're going to be able to choose properly is to dress yourself up properly in both of them.

Exactly what Kharv said and as I said previously. People are not comparing like with like atm and so you're getting a jaundiced view. The more I look I still like number 1 but would love to see it fitting you better and now that you're so slim Smiley smile we have also mentioned the overall theme as the dresses are different in style ie vintage/contemporary. Smiley winking

Thank you everyone (sorry I don't get on much as have a toddler) I'm almost certain I'm going with no 2, so much so I've just ordered in in a smaller size to see how that makes me feels (or if it fits!) I've never been happy with no 1 and I'm scared to alter it as I then won't be able able to sell on (or will find hard) the only issue I have with no 2 it is feels quite plain but I'm not sure if that's because I'm used to the busy lace? I'm quite an in your face person ( my hairs bright red) and not on for plain clothes but then if the dress looks nice enough as it is it could be left plain? I'm torn on the blue ribbon around the waist or not?

I think it looks lovley as it is, and with the shoes, coloured petticoat and pearl bouquet it'll look fab, but, I can't really see the waist of the dress to say what it would look like with a belt or something added to it, could you flash another picture perhaps?

Maybe if you really think it looks that plain (I honestly don't!) then you could add a few pearls to the waist or the bust area? I think that could add to it without making it look too different. I think it is a really beautiful dress and you could mix it up by adding a lovely bright petticoat if you prefer bright colours that stand out and that way you haven't made any permanent changes to the dress!! I think you should also post some pics up when you have tried it on Smiley smile
