So, looks like we're not having a honeymoon :-(

Hugo Brambles, 27 December, 2009 at 19:01 Posted on Planning 0 26

OH say's we can't afford one. I do understand where he's coming from but I must admit I'm a bit done as I think that its the only chance we'lll get to have a proper honeymoon. We can't have it at a later date as the baby is due in May so it's holidays alone out of the window for the foreseeable future. Plus I don't think a delayed honeymoon would ever feel like a 'proper' honeymoon with all the excitement of being Mr and Mrs etc.

Any last minute recs for cheapies away to try and talk my OH around? Either in this country or abroad - I'm not a great fan of 'staycations' but I feel like I want to do something to mark the occassion. He likes hot beach holidays but as I say I don't think we'd be able to afford them. The wedding is in 2 weeks time.

There are loads of holiday sales going on right now- could you not take advantage of one of them?

    You must be so excited!

Thanks Laura. Yes with the baby due in 5/6 months I think I'll have all on with that and just coping day to day let alone going on honeymoon!! Money will be even tighter aswell so I can't see the budget being bigger if we wait.

I don't really get excited to be honest, I'm pretty laid back about it all. Will be interesting to see how it all comes to reality.

Www.sun4udirect.com have a look on this website, me and oh have booked to go away for 10 nights all inclusive in may for £702 between us which includes flights and transfers as well. which we thought was a good deal and no travel agent could get anywhere near that on price. plus they keep sending me offers by email now and look like they go some good 1s at the mo x

We are asking for money as wedding gift which we are going to use towards our honeymoon, is that not a possibility? Although thats what we'll be doing we arent going til the end of the year as we will be going to Jamaica where my other half is from, so we have opted to have a short break straight after the wedding at the place in the link below, it'll be a nice romantic lodge with everything you need on site and the prices are really reasonable we are paying less than £400 for 5 days ? and I think when we go falls in the school easter hols as well! Hope you get to have a honeymoon of some sort.

We were going to postpone our honeymoon until sept so we could see my brother get married in Turkey, but now that I am pregnant we arent bothering either. What we have decided to do is have one in 5 years time somewhere, and having a full on romance fest - theres no rules saying you need to have it directly after the wedding. This way we get to be all lovey-dovey again in a few years time and share it with our little one too. I'd much prefer to wait - and concentrate on looking after piglet than be on holiday with a big bump not being able to have a drink and relax in the heat.

Don't do it! Don't do it! In my experience anyway ...

Torquay is my 'home' town and lived for all my growing up (from 2 onwards). It's a lovely place to visit in the sunshine, but it's really gone downhill of late. Horrible out of season, economically depressed, high levels of petty crime, anti-social behaviour (drugs etc), lots of underage pregnancy etc. Make sure you know it warts and all before you move! Or at least avoid some of the worst areas.

    Oh HB, that sucks.

Is there anywhere in the UK you would fancy staying for a few days, just to get a break?

If you give us some idea's, Im happy to have a hunt around for you.

Thanks everyone for all your ideas.

MrsJackson, the wedding is a week away so a bit late for that. It wasn't an option OH would hear of anyway, he really wanted a traditional wedding list.

Thanks thefuturemrsclarke that website looks really good - will have a proper look today.

As I say I don't want to postpone it, it ill never feel like a proper honeymoon to me if it's not just after the wedding.

I wouldn't be oppose to the UK in theory missdeedee but in January, being the size of a whale and skint, I can't see that there is going to be much that floats my boat. Thanks anyway though.

Im guessing your not going to fancy an action packed break! What about a really lovely hotel somewhere for a few nights? You should have a look at the De Vere hotels, some of them are really lovely. Cameron House in Loch Lomond is gorgeous, you could maybe have three nights there and just have a really relaxing break?

Would you fancy something like that?

By relaxing I tend to read 'boring'!! Sorry, I'm being awkward but I'm not used to being so blinking restricted in what I can do (financially and physically!). I think OH would say we could go abroard for what it costs to have a few days in this country.

No, I know exactly what you mean, I hate their being nothing to do, I tend to get bored to!

If you can't get something booked abroad, I think you should still book a few nights in a hotel somewhere, I think it would be nice to get away, even if it is just here for a few days.

Alot of the hotels you can use their spa, sauna and swimming pools etc, that genuinely would be relaxing, but not just sitting in the room bored.

Let me know if you like any of the De Vere hotels, or the Village hotels (part of the same group). I get discount codes for them through my work, so might be able to help you get a cheaper deal xx

Thank you Claire and missdeedee. missdeedee that's really kind thank you ever so much, the hotels do look beautiful but not sure I could convince OH to go.

Might be worth popping to the travel agents next week and seeing whats on offer for a very last minute cheapie.

This is just my suggestion prior to some of my friends' inexpensive honeymoon. one of my friend got a honeymoon just so simple because they are saving for the house they are planning to buy. they went on a cheap beach resort and have themselves isolated with all the friends and family, just both of them solemnly for 2 days having all the time to bond and do some activities that they enjoyed both.

If you are clever you could get a weeks holiday in somewhere like Portugal (the algarve) for under £500, if you go online (last minute.com) and to a travel agents there should be some real bargains out there.

The reason I mention algarve is that it's the sunniest place in europe so you should get some reasonable weather. Also try places like tenerife and the canaries.

ETS: Remember that the flight centre will beat any price you find online!!!

Are you preggo? Sorry im confuzzled cause I remember you saying you're not fond of kids...(Saying that in a nice confused way not horrible way btw)

I would REALLY REALLY try to get away, even if its a cheap Spain holiday over a long weekend, its alot harder to do so with an under 1 yr old so maybe tell hubby that now is a better time then any to go As really it will be your last chance as a "couple" so to speak...

If abroad is not an option what about heading to somewhere like Scotland, Ireland, or Wales all beatiful in their own rigts depending where you go

Have you thought about the isle of wight?

Because you have to get there via ferry it makes it feel like it's not a UK holiday as it were. There are some excellent bargains for there at the moment. Inc. at the Sandringham hotel which does 1/2 board offers.

    http://www.sandringhamhotel.co.uk/

It's the southerly part of the island (which is much better) and they include the car ferry in your booking.

Maybe if u sat down and looked at ur credit cards etc and came up with any sort of possible budget, and also narrowed down what type of holiday you want, you might both get excited about booking something cheap asap. sooo hard once u have a child, and it'll really give you something to look forward to after the madness of the wedding has passed. you sound pretty down about this whole thing so seems like you would be a lot happier if you could somehow scrape together a minimoon.

also tbh i would agree that going somewhere in the UK is as expensive as going abroad, and with the weather these days i would MUCH rather try and sneak away. south of spain might have some reasonable options - or maybe a 5 day mini break in egypt/morocco/tunisia. good luck Smiley sad

    xx
