so preferential rates for guests is a tenner off?

Elixia, 30 September, 2013 at 13:57 Posted on Planning 0 8

A little bit ranty but here goes.

when i checked out the venue lately i had a list of questions, like are candles allowed, do they have a ipod dock etc etc. I also asked about the preferential rates for guests would be. and for the standard double room with breakfast it would be £120 i was a little floored by that and i should of probed it but i was just a little stunned.

I've been online and gone through there booking forms to find thats she only knocks off the price of breakfast for the room! I am gobsmacked on how expensive it is! And feeling a little guilty.

I've seen a pretty B&B down the road that does good rooms at half that price and am pretty tempted at approaching them to see if I can book my wedding party in there! My poor mum wont be able to afford that and the parents on both side are hoping we could have breakfast together in the hotel. If push came to shove I'd forgo the free bridal suite and go the b&b with everyone else if i followed that route! Plus i know the best man is strapped for cash among a few others on the party. I'm a bit miffed.

A discount of 7.6%? a tenner? really? Or am I being unreasonable?

I suspect that's the first offer from her. I would say that you are now looking elsewhere, unless they can offer a better discount. Have you checked the prices on LateRooms/etc? If you find a cheaper price there, you'll have some leverage.

Checked out a bunch of sites they're £119 on practically all of them.

I'm going to have to call and haggle, if not find somewhere else for everyone to get a bed.

Could the rooms at the venue be reasonably booked by non-wedding randoms? If so, then that decreases your bargaining power. If it would be nigh on impossible to book those rooms out while your wedding is there (because you're using all the facilities), then you are in a reasonable position.

Hmmm well while we're there we ARE hogging the prized Micheal Caine restaurant ALL NIGHT. Horse races don't start til May ... but i think it warrants more investigation in where I stand.

Rooms at our hotel for discounted wedding party rate are £80 per night but my Sister in Law booked hers on Trivago for £60 so makes you think.

maybe have a look at some of the online hotel booking sites and see if you can get rooms cheaper that way?

    xx

My sister got married in June at a copthorne hotel, the rooms with the wedding discount were £130 a night I booked mine online with expedia or someone like that and paid £85! I would look around for online prices

I might be being thick but has she offered you the rooms at £120? The same as online? so they would normally be £130? If the offer is the same as online then you do have leveridge.... you should tell them its putting you off booking ... but realistically she will probably only go another tenner .....

Ah yes to make that clearer she offered £119 with breakfast, online its £119 WITHOUT breakfast so ..... she's throwing in breakfast for free.
