So, tell be about your table names

MrsMcB2B, 28 May, 2009 at 18:11 Posted on Planning 0 13

Am trying to decide whether to have names for our tables, or just stick to numbers. Numbers is winning at the moment as can't really think of anything that would be relevant to both of us. We have purple as a vague theme but that's about it.

What are you guys doing?

Cheers x

We are going to have names but haven't decided on what yet

Things I have seen though are:

    • chocolate bars
    • sweets
    • drinks
    • football players/grounds
    • countries the couple have visited
    • films
    • songs
    • musicians
    • colours - or if you are having purple, you could name the tables different shades of purple?

We had our grandparents names. Only one living grandparent between us, so this was a nice way of acknowledging them on the day. Made us feel like they were there in a way. Does that make any sense?

H2B's a Tottenham Hotspur season ticket holder so the only bit of Spurs I would let into the day was naming our tables after our favourite old Spurs players. Tacky I know, but I had to please him somewhere and we couldn't think of anything else we had in common!

We've been thinking bout all sorts of names - things to do with us eg, racehorses, beatles albums, cocktail names, villages in the peaks, even opi nail varnish colours!! But think we're going to go with retro sweets. Our favour boxes are bigger then we expected so are filing them with sweets so it ties in quite well there.

Were using pictures on the tables as well instead of just writing the names on cards to make it more visual

Completely. We don't have any grandparents left and I was hoping during the evening to slip off just the two of us with our BM and CBM and each release a chinese lantern. It sounds silly but just a little thing between us to remember our grandparents. The venue don't allow chinese lanterns though so i'm going to have to think of something else!

Mine is a fan! I let him chose the colour scheme so it is dark blue! I would have probably gone for sage green but am happy for him to have his way on that! I am a MUFC fan and did suggest we named the tables after players who had left Spurs for MUFC but he didn't go for that idea! Plus I could only think of 4 ....

Anyway on the table front - no decision yet but I fancy names of places we have been together and getting an old black and white photo of the place for the table. Would name our table after our honeymoon place I think.

We met working at an outdor centre for kids so were thinking of naming the tables after the activities so we'd end up with zipwire, giant swing, caving, climbing etc.

But then decided that was stupid after all so we're going the number thang!

(although I still think a Dragon's Quest table would be kinda cool!).

We are having names of racecourses. The top table will be Newmarket at is the home of racing and the place we visit the most. The other tables have a slight link to the people who will be sitting there. My brother always goes to the Cheltenham Festival so his table is Cheltenham where as SIL is a frequent visitor to Ascot so that is her table!!

It was easier to pick table names rather than have a top table and have to decide which groups of family and friends sit at 1, 2, 3, etc. I know it wouldn't bother people and they probably wouldn't even notice if they were at a lower numbered table but unfortunately I can guarantee that we have a Nan and an Aunite who would. Names were just a lot easier than trying to prioritise the families!!

    Hope this helps x x

We were thinking about this last night too. We did consider having champagne houses as names and still might... the alternative is to have the places we have lived in London, esp. as we're getting married there too...eg. Richmond, Teddington, Putney, Kingston etc etc. we think we've got enough!

We're having the names of the top groups from our youth.

U2 (our top table), Spandau Ballet, Simple Minds (put friends here who can take a joke !), Culture Club (for our posher guests), Haircut100, Adam & The Ants, Bananarama, Duran Duran & Human League - hmmm...showing our age a bit here !

We've printed CDs with the band name over an inconic album cover from each band to put in a table name holder on each table. Our seating plan also uses CDs with the guests names printed over the album cover to represent each table (we 're having all round tables)

We're having names of mountains. My o/h is keen on hiking and walking and since my family live in the Mourne mountains in Northern Ireland, we got engaged in the French Alps and my o/h has climbed the major peaks in the UK we're taking ones from each country. At my friend's wedding last year, they named the tables after coffee shops they had frequented - again they had lived in two countries, so had more to choose from!

We had ski resorts we had been to. Luckily we had just the right number. Our table wasa Breckenridge as that had the best snow ever, so it had to be our table ?

Another wedding I went to had locks on the river Thames as their table names which I thought was nice
