So - went to a local Wedding Fair today....

pammy67, 9 March, 2014 at 15:54 Posted on Planning 0 14

...nicely handed a glass of bubbly and a canape and then sent on our merry way around. Some lovely local suppliers there, really lovely people with stunningly gorgeous pretty things to show us. But the single biggest gripe I had was 80% presumed my daughter was the bride and immediately began talking to her. At which point she directed them my way.Talk about making pre-judgments!! It really put me off dealing with some of them, not that I was in the market to for some for a number of reasons. Others I may well have been though. Hat's off to those who had the sense to actually ask who was getting married.

But we didn;t elt it spoil the day, we enjoyed the tasting of cakes. I can still taste a lemon cake we had. Looking favourite for our cake now. x

H2Bs cousin had exactly the same things at one today. They kept thinking her daughter was the bride. I went along to one today too, although we didn't get champagne :-( But loads of cake, sweets, cocktails and chocolate fountain.

They shouldn't be making judgements like that, would put a lot of people off doing things that way!
Glad you had a nice day though Smiley smile

We went to look at wedding rings the other day and I was a little miffed that the saleswoman assumed that we must be replacing rings, it wouldn't have stopped me buying, but I hate peopke who make assumptions. Glad it didn't spoil your day xxx

Oh that is annoying, but I'm glad that you didn't let it spoil your day and still enjoyed the cake tastings (always the best bit I think!). I'm 42 and have definitely got to that age where people presume that I must be married. When I go the doctors/dentist, although they must have me down as a Miss on my records, they always call me up as "Mrs. ***".

Thank you kind lovely ladies. I know I'm a bride of more years but I'm still a bride Smiley smile My daughter bless her is wonderful and puts them straight. I did think this would happen but it has surprised me just how much. Many people of my age get married and have the whole works and why not? Xx

I went to my first one today. All but 4 of the vendors will not be getting my money that's for sure. They pretty much laughed in my face when I told them it was Sept 2017. -_-

Met four great vendors and think I've found my car and cake maker already!

I won't be going to any just yet but our wedding is 2017 as well and the venues don't seem that keen for us to start looking round etc. Rude. I'm only getting ideas while we save up the deposit so far but the freebies are worth bagging Smiley winking

This is a nice way to get a feel for anyone you might want to deal with, it can be a 5 second job interview. They make a broad assumption with no basis and you can just smile and walk on.
The upside is you get to enjoy the lemon cake as you pass on by.

Some of the freebies are worth having - others end up straight in the recycling Smiley winking x

Glad you didn't let it ruin your day! I would probably have glared at everyone. I went to one with my Aunt as my Mum can't go due to mobility problems. Every vendor assumed she was my Mum (fair enough) and then some asked her what the budget was!! It happened at about 5 of the vendors. I was mortified, but she handled it well. She laughed, explained she was my Auntie and then got them to give her extra free samples to bring home to Mum!

I'm going to one on Sunday with H2B in the hopes we can order our rings, I don't think there will be any confusion with him by my side!

I get a lot of 'oh your not already married??' because we DARED to have our son (and I'm pregnant) before we got married!

    Well strike me down!

We went to one and one of the vendors assumed my OH was my dad..... Mortified much?!

He is 27 and looks about 30, still has a baby face, but lost his hair when he was about 18, so looks older than he is. I'm 25, but I've been told I look about 14, so I get that it could be a bit confusing, but I wish people wouldn't assume anything! We are at a wedding fair, so it is unlikely a 14 yr old would be looking for ideas! I'm not a gold digger after an older man, we just both happen to look the wrong age!

Still, we got a LOT of free cake from that vendor!

I've had this before because my OH is 13 years older than me and my mum looks really young and is only 7 years older then OH, so when we went to view a venue and took mum along the co-ordinator thought my mum and OH were the couple getting married!
