Some advice on evening meal please

ianpalmer32, 9 May, 2012 at 20:20 Posted on Planning 0 15

Were in the process of deciding what we want for our evening meal, the venue is quite versatile and we wanted something a bit different.

At the moment we don't want a cheese board as we've been to one with that and didn't enjoy it that much.

We didn't really want a buffet as its been done loads, unless there's a way to spice it up a bit.

We didn't really want a hog roast as that's been done to death.

We have considered a Lamb roast instead of hog as it's a little more different but we've had some feedback about lamb not mixing to well with alcohol as its a fattier meat.

Any ideas people? What do you guys think about a Lamb roast?

Oh and before its mentioned the only thing the venue can't do is a BBQ.

Ian

I personally love lamb but i know it can be a bit love it or hate it meat.

If you wanted to keep it casual how about indian? a selection of curry with all the trimmings?

Bangers (with different types of sausages) and mash?

    Home made pie?

Our venue has an option to provide bacon and sausage rolls instead of sandwiches. I quite like the idea of having hot food for the buffet. Lamb sounds like quite a good idea but not everyone might like it. I like the curry idea too!

I went to a wedding last year, where the evening food was fajitas! It was amazing and a funked up version of buffet. Wraps, salad, pasta, and then the fajita mix too.

Some great ideas here guys, really like the Fajitas and Tapas ideas also the mini beef burgers and fish n chips.

I'll let you know what we decide upon in the meantime feel free to keep chucking suggestions at me, they're really giving me something to think about.

    Many thanks

We had lamb shanks for our meal, and there was only 2 people who asked for chicken. Everyone said how lovely it was and how nice it was to have something a bit different rather than "playing it safe". Remember, its your wedding, have what you want!!

This. Also because our caterer will only cook what guests request, so no excess, plus this option was cheaper than buffet/finger food stuff.

Oh yes and I love lamb, but OH won't let me have it as he doesn't like it too much. I think lots of people can be picky over it.

I don't eat lamb. I'm in a minority though. Just throwing it out there for numbers sake. Personally, if I didn't eat something, I'd have a buffet of what was there like the rolls, the salad or vegetables.

I know someone whose vegetarian family boycotted the wedding because she was having a hog roast and they didn't want to see it!!

I like the fajita and tapas ideas might have to steal these!!! i have to say as a veggie, the thought of a little lamb on a stick would put me right off! im not a massive fan of hog roasts for the same reason, also lamb is a bit of a funny one with a lot of meat eaters not eating lamb a BBQ would be good though x
