Some questions for brides about how you choose a photographer?

Evoke HIB, 13 February, 2012 at 15:23 Posted on Planning 0 5

If anyone is bored enough, can you answer a few quick questions for me?

Do you shop by price first and foremost or will you stretch your budget for photography?

Or would you prefer to stretch your budget for another part of your wedding?

If you booked at a wedding fayre, did you intend to or did you think you would shop around more?

What would you like to see from a photographer at a fayre - albums, framed prints? Slide shows?

Have you ever gone to a wedding fayre intending to book a photographer?

How did you find your photographer?

Any other thoughts along these lines? We're doing lots of wedding fayres this year and any inside info is useful.

Sorry this post is garbled (and think the formatting is a bit suspect), I am posting on an itouch with two 2 year olds climbing over me. Smiley smile

If anyone is bored enough, can you answer a few quick questions for me?

Do you shop by price first and foremost or will you stretch your budget for photography?

No photos were important to us so the quality of the photos and style first and foremost.

Or would you prefer to stretch your budget for another part of your wedding? no our photographer is the second most expensive part of our wedding after the venue we think its worth investing in a good TOG and cutting back on other areas.

If you booked at a wedding fayre, did you intend to or did you think you would shop around more? if we had seen someone we liked we would have booked yes.

What would you like to see from a photographer at a fayre - albums, framed prints? Slide shows? examples of work not just the photographers best album but a complete set of works, prices are important to one photographer we spoke to at a fayre didn't have his price/package details with him I don't want to be chasing people for this after the fayre to find out its not in budget.

Have you ever gone to a wedding fayre intending to book a photographer? Not purely to book a photographer but if found one we liked probably would.

How did you find your photographer?

My other half works in media and was familiar with his work already.

Do you shop by price first and foremost or will you stretch your budget for photography?
No. First and foremost I looked for a photographer with quality work, who I trust to capture and supply me beautiful photographs. My attitude is whats the point in paying anyone if they are only going to provide you with photos as good as the average person can do?

Or would you prefer to stretch your budget for another part of your wedding?
I didn't need to, as I found someone within my budget, but I would have done to get the person I wanted.

If you booked at a wedding fayre, did you intend to or did you think you would shop around more?
I didnt. I went to a couple of wedding fayres, but found 3 types of photographers I didn't like.
    1. The companies, with who you have no idea who you are getting as a photographer. Probably someone not very good, because the companies have to make profit too, which means they won't be paying the photographer much.

    2. The amateurs

    3. Pushy photographers, desperate for a sale and offering silly gimmicks and false deals. i.e. this free, that free. When you know its either not. Or is something which costs nothing, like a slide show.

What would you like to see from a photographer at a fayre - albums, framed prints? Slide shows?
Slide shows are a terrible gimmick. I see all the amateur photographers offering them. An album I wanted and I've ordered, but I saw many awful, cheap albums at wedding shows, or worse the same as I've already seen on the internet, with a huge margin added.

Have you ever gone to a wedding fayre intending to book a photographer?
    Not specifically

How did you find your photographer?
Lots of google searching (and with lots of fustration, wading through the amateurs)

Just be good. Professional. Show me beautiful photographs that look like they belong in a magazine.

We found our TOG at a wedding fayre. There were 4 others there but we loved his work and just clicked with him .

We actually changed our wedding date so that we could have him.
