Sam12345, 28 July, 2013 at 19:41 Posted on Planning 0 20

Ladies I need inspiration, what are you all having for your something borrowed?

I have all my wedding jewellery, tiara and veil. At this rate I will be asking my dad to borrow me a pound on the morning of the wedding lol.

This was something I struggled with too...but my lovely bridesmaid-best friend-sister in law to be (I'm marrying my best friends brother!) is letting me borrow her late Grandma's pearl necklace! It will be my something old and something borrowed! The necklace is very small so I will be wearing it as a bracelet, wrapped twice around my wrist. I almost cried when she said I could wear it as I know how much it means to her and my hubby to be will love that I'm wearing something belonging to his Grandma. He is going to wear his late Grandpa's cuff links on the day too!

    It's a pain isn't it!

Sazzles that's a lovely something borrowed, and really nice that your future SIL is your best friend. I'm wearing my grandmas crystal necklace as my something old. My mum gave it to me after grandma died and I love it.

That's lovely! I think perfume could be something borrowed! My mum re-married a couple of years ago and offered to let me borrow her bra as we are the same size! Think she was a bit offended when I declined her offer! Eww!

I have my friend's underskirt/hoop lined up to try on when my dress comes in and if it fits it will be my something borrowed. I also have countless offers of jewellery from mums and aunties as well though. Some people get things sewn into their bouquets.

Haha yeah think I would turn the offer of a borrowed bra down! Lol

My mum wants to buy me a new scent so perfume is a no go. Technically I supposed I am borrowing all my make up from the MUA so that could be it lol x

I was deperate to borrow something of my Mums, as some of you may remember, she is the not-going-to-get-better type of poorly, but she and I went through her jewellery box and we realised that most of what she is has 80's costume jewellery or a few yellow gold necklaces! It was a bit of an emotional moment as she wanted to lend me something so badly and I wanted to borrow something so badly and we couldn't come up with a thing!

I started thinking about her wedding dress - it has buttons down the front, a bit like the buttons on the back of mine, but how could I ask her to borrow those? Then a few days later she phoned me up and said she had been thinking, and what about the buttons from her dress?

It was a bit sad to cut them off, there were a few tears from us both, but I will either sew them onto the back of my dress below my own buttons, or if it doesnt look right, they will go on tiny ivory ribbons and will be on my bouquet. My bouquet will be wrapped in the lace from my dress and it will be as if my bouquet has a wedding dress on with the buttons! Then I will sew them back onto her dress so that it is a proper borrow.

    xxx

That's a lovely idea! How about doing something similar Sam12345? You could maybe sew something in to the inside of your dress or garter?

Havecreditwillwed - that is such a lovely idea.

Back to the OP - How about borrowing a nail polish from a friend? or a ribbon/sash to tie in your bouquet? Never considered how difficult something borrowed would be!

My lovely mother in law lent me an antique lace handkerchief that used to belong to her late mother. I had it pinned around the stems of my bouquet which, before the day, I wasn't sure about. On the day though, it looked beautiful. I actually asked MIL to lend me something, since she has 3 sons and no daughters, and I wanted her to feel involved in the girly side a little bit.

Lol we are going for manicures an pedicures lol - so am I kinda borrowing the spa's nail polish?

I could try and find some ribbon and tie it to my bouquet. I have ribbon on my memory charm but could swap that one for a borrowed one. Thanks x

That's a good idea too I could ask my MIL if she has anything didn't think to ask her.

My OH's nan bought me a silver sixpence and put it in our engagement card x

I'm borrowing my BM's bracelet. It's really pretty and goes perfectly with the rest of my jewellery.

I'm struggling with my something old!
