As someone with a major Ben n Jerry's obsession, what caught my eye at the last wedding fayre I went to was an ice cream trike, it looked really traditional and quirky, better than a sweet buffet IMO, or go the whole hog and hire and ice cream van ?

I also like the idea of fire eaters or poi for evening entertainment but it doesn't come within my budget.

Depends what your looking for. Are you looking for things for your guests to do or view?

We're having a Fireworks display at ours. Not entirely original, but we get sparklers for everyone which is cool, and are planning on having hand warmers as favours for everyone.

We did look into a fire poi display, but i ended up going with the Fireworks for ease as i couldn't find anyone relatively local.

We are having our evening reception where there is an Owl sanctuary so the owls are coming to join us...guests can hold the owls/photos etc. I love owls so for me this is perfect. I want to do donkey rides too, but need to check with venue. I know of a charity who rescue donkeys and to raise funds they will attend Summer fairs etc. If you fancy this I can send you the link.... My guests will fully expect me to do something quirky....they won't be disappointed!

Have you chosen a theme yet?

If so maybe you could let us know what it is and we might be able to think of some unusual ideas!

Me and my siblings surprised my brother with an ice-cream van at his wedding and it was really cool! got some really brilliant photos and got everyone a bit silly (also slowed us all up in drinking). was less expensive than i figured - €50 call out fee plus €2 per head, calculated at the end so based on how many people actually had an icecream.

Friend of ours sent out triangular pieces of material with the invites & asked guests to use it as a guest book. At the wedding, guests arrived with painted, embroidered, beaded- all sorts of designs on the triangles. These were strung up to make a bunting across the door. It was in a marquee, so fitted in well with the theme.

We had table trivia on each table to break the ice for guests that didnt know anyone. Cheap, but effective & passes the time if there is a long wait between courses.

I've heard of people having bouncy castles. I dont think high heels, nice hair, dresses & alcohol mix though, so didnt have one at mine.

My brother had a scroll on each table with about 10 questions. During the night, the table had to work out the answers and at the end, the best, funiest, most accurate answers won a small prize. All the questions related to wedding practices/traditions in other countries & some were very funny indeed.

Mime artist, cartoonist, comedian, joke/tricks- just some ideas.
