I think it is wrong on so many levels. It is hardly great treatment of living creatures is it?

It may look 'different' but how good would it look once the fish were all floating belly up?

I'm not putting you down personally for liking the idea but I think it is wrong to promote/sell it to people.

Seen them before and personally I think it is pretty cruel too! I can see the attraction but I would use those fake fish that are attached on glass bubbles so they float if I was going to recreate it.

Its very cruel for the fish. Imagine being sat in a vase all day. What would you do with the fish afterwards? How many would die for your pleasure? Would you use properly treated water that is safe for the fish? and so on

I would keep the fish afterwards as i have an aquariam anyway, these are plain cold water fish. the flowers would not affect the fish depending on the flowers but obviously i wouldnt want them to die so the only flowers that i would use would be the ones appropriate, the vases are much bigger than an ordinary gold fish tank and they are sat in that all day so thats not a problem.

my only concern is people mucking arround with them, and i think the suggestion of just having them in the day is really good, thanks x x

I keep troipcal fish myself and have to say i dont this idea at all mainly as to what would happen to the fish one you are done with them.

Maybe have a look around for novelty fish tanks or something but definetely not real live fish, its too cruel.

Theres no way a vase is 20gallons which is what you need for each goldfish, having all these in one aquarium would be far too many. Just because they are 'plain' fish does not mean that you should treat them in a way that they could be harmed. I wonder what the RSCPA has to say about fish in table centres. Its really not a good idea. Fish can die of the shock of being transported from the shop to your house let alone being blasted with music at a wedding and people giggling them and sloshing them in pints

Honestly, even if they will get a good home with you afterwards? Please - don't. There are so many other lovely ideas out there and how will you know which flowers are or aren't going to harm the fish unless you use 'pond' flowers?

Its up there with doves and butterflies (Mrs Rooney no doubt has a lot to answer for on that score!) ....

No one has got 'nasty' so dont get on your high horse. Im trying to point out to you that its a bad idea and possibly lethal for the fish.

Im sorry i hope my post didnt come across as being nasty as that not how it was intended. As i said i keep topical fish and i was really upset the other day when i lost 2 of my siamese fighter girls in a week.So i hate it when any animal dies for whatever reason im soppy like that.

Theres some great novelty shops out there ive seen that sell little bowls with fake fish in them, maybe thats a good route to go down?

Cant really think of any other novelty ideas sorry xx

There is no point in floucing from a thread because you dont like what someone says, please do not use live fish it really is not fair on the fish. Trust me if some of the other hitchers had seen this they would have been far far ruder than I have been (and all I have been is blunt about it to try and safe the fish)

Louise no one was nasty and did just give their opinion like you asked for. Threads like this will always cause a debate.

Personally I don't like the idea. If you are happy with using the fish knowing there is a good chance of them being mistreated then go for it.

I haven't seen any nastiness here, only defensiveness from the OP.

As the OP won't be reading the thread again, I won't bother giving my opinion. She won't have liked it anyway.

    Hi Louise,

Hope you read this as you shouldn't be put off by the negative comments on here........they are just others opinions and sure if mull it over for a while you will realise there are a lot of animal/fish/reptile and I'm sure somewhere insect lovers on here?

Its not the cruelty to the fish that would put me off really........after all if we were all honest during our wedding planning.

How many trees have we killed? How much non biodegradable stuff will be hitting tips and poisoning the soil for future generations? When we bought our dresses did we ask if children were going blind sewing our frock? How much food will we waste when there are children starving?

Me.........I didn't think of any of the above?......didn't cross my mind for a second.

I just wouldn't like them swimming about in front of me while I was eating.........and there could be a few of your M8s who would have similar reactions as above.

I like my fish fried with lemon.......yum.......yes they are tastey?

Whilst I don't personally agree with fish being used as entertainment/decoration, who can actually say they are total vegans and don't eat fish? come on now, the OP just made a suggestion-and I think she now knows peoples opinions-give her a break

I think this kind of idea always sounds great untill you think about it, then all the above starts to make sense. There are loads of other ways to make your wedding different.
