Something to make my nails grow and be stronger.....

sian-tiffany, 15 March, 2012 at 11:18 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hello,

My nails have always been bad but im trying to growm them for the wedding but they just break. They need strength. Can anyone reccomend anything i should use or should be doing? Ive tried the OPI Nail Envy which has not helped at all (despite the expensive price tag).

I use Sally Hansen Hard as nails. I've used it for a while and my nails literally never break. There are loads of other products too and I dont think they are too pricey.

One of my friends swears by eating jelly everyday to strengthen her nails!

Mine are dreadful and I only have 3 weeks - I have been taking Holland & Barrett Skin Hair Nails vitamin formula for the past 2 weeks and have already noticed the difference - plus daily hand cream which I can never normally be bothered but something seems to be working!

Sally Hansen - Hard as nails. but all her nail range is really good, I had awful nails for years, managed to let them grow but then they kept snapping, got recommened her range by a nail technician and they are in really good condition now, even a nail that i slammed in a door and fell off in Jan has now grown fully back. even though i was told it could take a year.

I have been taking Holland & Barrett silica supplements (they are £25 although I got them in a half price offer) - I've noticed more different to my hair than nails. Nail Envy did nothing for me but Jessica Liquid Strength has DEFO improved them in the last two weeks. I scoured the internet and got a deal for the liquid strength and maintenance polish for £18.

Supplementing your diet is the best way to change your nails as any products applied to the surface will only last aslong as you keep applying the product. Saying that, a good hand cream does help brittle nails and keeps your cuticles soft but it won't "strengthen" them.

V good advice vintage! I've been told that the more expensive nail polish treatment DO nourish the nail bed as opposed to sitting on top. Having said that if something will harden my nails on top to stop them flaking then bingo! I eat really well but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I guess we all absorb things in different ways.

This! I take Perfectil Plus supplements and I always notice the difference in my hair and nails after about 2-3 weeks.

Easy. Scrap the fancy nail hardeners. Keep nail varnish on all the time, even just some clear stuff. Do not get your nails wet for long periods. (hand washing, hair washing yes, but washing up without gloves or holding your hands under water in the bath is a big no no!)

That is all I did when I grew mine. It's been 10 years now and yes I get breakages when I am clumsy but they stay strong.

I use Sally Hansen hard as nails too - i used it when i stopped biting my nails as they were very weak, and now, a few years on, I still use it instead of clear polish, because it is so good. I have also heard the jelly thing - apparently if you eat a cube of (unmade) jelly, it strengthens your nails. Taste nice too!

Depending on your budget - I'd recommend getting biogels. I've never had nice nails but my mum recommended I had the gels and I've had them on for four weeks now (2 different sets) and my nails have grown really long underneath them. Got four weeks to go and then will be able to have my natural nails for the day. Or maybe just have a french set of the gels. Not sure yet.

Try massaging a small amount of caster oil on your cuticles and nails each day and within a few months you should have supple cuticles and healthy nails. (and nice soft hands) it's cheap too.

Well ive bought Hair, Skin and Nail supliments and the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails. Thought id kick start it with a manicure and the girl put on a nail varnish called 'Shelac' - not sure how to spell it. She said it wouldnt come off or chip for 3 weeks? Has anyone else had this?

I've had it done several times now and wouldn't go back to a normal manicure (which only lasts 5 days on me!) Shellac lasts two weeks on me before it starts growing out, then it starts to chip. Depending on your own nails you may well get three weeks out of it.

I have very strong nails, that get very long and have to be cut to avoid scratching people or children thinking I am a witch.

I put it down to barely ever painting them, meaning I barely ever use nail varnish remover on them, and eating plenty of jelly.
