Song for our first dance..

Broody_wife, 7 November, 2009 at 14:53 Posted on Planning 0 23

Hi,

We've just got engaged and are getting married in 46 weeks, we've booked our venue and I've picked my flowers and got a few ideas for my own, my bridesmaids, & flower girls dresses. The one thing we're really struggling with is a song for our first dance. Theres sooo many songs, but we're looking for something thats not very common.

Please Help!!

We are having that problem too, the thing is the point of the first dance is that it is a song that is special to you both, but we cant seem to think of any that would be suitable for 'the first dance' i can think of lots of nice first dance type songs, but they just dont have any special meaning to us and as you may well have noticed there are some quite frequently used ones out there!! Smiley sad the hunt goes on!!

Thats the exact same problem we're having. The one song that we always dance to at partys etc, is "Amazed" by lone start, but my cousin had that at hers and kind of spoiled it for us. I thought of having something funny, as my H2B is a bit of a joker, I thought of the proclaimers "i wanna spend my life with you" but H2B said it has to be something you can waltz too. So now i'm back to the drawing board!! x

OMG i cant believe you said that as that is kind of like 'our song' but it just doesnt seem like a first dance kind of song but then i suppose its what it means to you that matters x

Me and H2B will be going through he list of songs on that link and watching music videos for the next few weeks till we decide. haha

If thats the song you want i'd go for it. A lot of people have less traditional types of music now, but we just cant seem to agree on the song yet.... We'll probably go with Amazed in the end though.

Can I ask how you all get the wedding tickers? I tried to get one but can't seem to figure out how to add it to my posts....x

Haha Thats a great song especially if they had a dance made up to it and everything.

My brother and wife had Green day "time of your life" as their first dance. which was different but reall suited both their personalities. Its so hard to find the "perfect" song though... Everything i like he Hates and everything he likes I hate!! haha x

How about Truely, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden? i was listening to it on the radio this morning, the words do say it all really i do quite like it but im sure my sister had it for her first dance, i think it will come between that and the Proclaimers though!! x

I love that song, The words are soooo nice! However after a few pints with his BM in the pub last night, H2B suggested Wet Wet Wet Temptation. Which is another song I love, so now we're playing around with having that unless we find something else. I really wanted the proclaimers though as I think that song is great, but H2B wasn't impressed!!! I really like the Idea of Wet Wet Wet "Love is all around" but for sentimental Reasons. My brother was killed in a car accident 2yrs ago and he always sang that song at karaokes, so i felt it might make me feel like he's there, but I would probably spend my whole first dance sobbing into my hubbys shoulder!! lol x

I know but H2B isn't too keen on the song, so i'm quite happy to have any other wet wet wet song i suppose!! x

My advice would be to google wedding song lists and also youtube. Sometimes youtube can throw up songs you may never have thought of or remind you of another.

Go for what you want and dont think about its suitability. I mean its your day and your memories

Nope. H2B thinks I'll do all the planning myself and he can just turn up on the day!! haha But this is something I want us to agree on. everything else is kind of my choice except the honeymoon destination which he's picking. We met 4 years ago in november and there wasn't really any nice "wedding day" songs out there ? I think this is the one part of planning which will give me the biggest headache!! lol x

Well as you can probably tell from the name I work for a wedding planner. Glad to say most couples normally have a straight idea about their choice. Even though some may seem weird

We didn't have an 'our song' and didn't fancy anything slow where we just shuffled around on the spot so we picked a song that was a little different to the norm and we had a couple of dance lessons to help us along.

H and I are not the best dancers in the world, in fact it took me ages to persuade him to have the lessons and then when it came down to it I had to literally drag him into the dance studio but it was so worth it and we are both so glad we did it now. We were not perfect and I even elbowed H in the eye on our final twirl but our guests LOVED it! And it was really fun to do.

Our first dance was to Michael Bublé Moondance.

That sounds like fun, but my H2B isn't the most enthusiastic dancer unless he is sozzled. So I doubt i could get him to go for lessons. haha We have been listening to songs tonight but still aren't much further ahead with picking.... x

We're having trouble with this as well! we have LOADS of 'our songs' but most of them are either

    a) too cheesy (Luther Vandross!!)
    b) too fast - as in a clubby, dancey type song (we both love going dancing)
    c) too sexy

so we are very stuck! i seriously want to have Queen 'Don't Stop Me Now' and kind of jump around and shout it to each other, as we would in our living room, but I think he wants something more traditional! Michael Buble 'Everything' is a strong contender - absolutely stunning song

on the up side, i have convinced H2B to take dance classes! found a place which does 5 x 45 min private lessons quite reasonably. though we're about to start salsa lessons anyway (more of a health/weight loss thing) so not sure if we should just use those skills instead...

Oooooh I would definately use the salsa to your advantage on your wedding day! Most people go for a waltz so this would be completely different!! x

I agree with you on Michael Buble 'Everything'. That is our first dance song! We both love it, the words are really nice and we like that it is not a really slow song too, but still romantic and traditionial-ish.
