sooooooo happy, my Mum's helping out...

froggy29400, 16 March, 2010 at 22:31 Posted on Planning 0 8

Since we got engaged a month ago my Mum showed little interest and didn't even congratulate us. My brother said she was happy though, but not showing me! It really upset me, she just didn't seem to care about our plans. I chatted to her earlier and I told her I had found my dress, and she told me she would pay "a reasonable amount" towards it. For me that's progress! And I'm really really happy ?

She's coming from France this weekend to celebrate our engagement and my partner's 30th, so she might be even more enthusiastic "in the flesh"... who knows???!!

    Ya sounds good hon!

Could you maybe assign some jobs to her and show her you want her to be really involved? i know my Mum in the past has said sometimes she doesnt want to interfere because of hubby so have to pull her out of her shell a bit...

I am going to ask her to be the contact person for the caterer (he's a French man who lives in Wales), she might like it!

I bet she'll love having an important role. Glad your mum is finally showing her happiness.

I'm really pleased that she is begining to show an interest. I think she will be thrilled to be asked to deal with the caterer's, it's a very important part of the wedding.

I hope you have a possitive visit from her when she comes over at the weekend x

If you haven't seen her face to face you won't really know for sure. Telephones aren't the best for seeing how someone feels.

Did you not see the other posts last night Stazzle? https://www.hitched.co.uk/Chat/forums/p/158409/1602521.aspx#1602521

But back to the OP - I agree with the others that it's hard to judge a reaction over the phone.
