Soooooooo irritated! Update! :-)

BarcaGirl25, 11 March, 2014 at 18:40 Posted on Planning 0 16

And just when things were falling into place wedding wise! I get a call from an officious b*tch who "does the flowers" in the church we are marrying in. I've heard some awful things about her, how she hates outsiders and new ideas (OH and I are definitely outsiders to her ... I'm from four whole miles down the road!!) but I thought I'd give her the benefit of the doubt as she had never been directly offensive to us, just cold towards us.

She left me a VM on my mobile whilst I was at work so I called her when I got home, I was as bright and breezy as I can be on a Tuesday at 5.30 and besides I didn't know why she had called yet so I had no idea what was about to come ...

she was so rude! She told me I'd picked a very odd and difficult day to get married and she didn't know if I had booked a florist but I couldn't bring flowers into the church in Easter Sunday it was forbidden! I said I had booked a florist and run everything past the vicar who was fine with it. She told me she does the flowers and she only allows lilies at Easter. I said I was more than happy to have her lilies in the church, I understood their meaning and the symbology of it but that we were bringing our flowers. There were yellow flowers (daffs) in the church last year and I said so and she said that was "his idea". I asked if she meant the vicar and she said yes and she disagreed with him. Fine, whatever but he is the vicar, not her!

She concluded with well that's that and hung up on me.

Ive emailed the vicar to explain what happened and clarify the situation but I am really annoyed. I've had a bad day anyway but seriously... I've not been rude or said I didn't want the lilies (personally I don't like them but I'm not going to get in the way of the tradition) I just said we have discussed our ideas with the vicar and we are doing so and so.

Cripes she has wound me up something proper.

no need for a reply I'm just effed off!!

How very rude! Hope the vicar can sort it out. I've not even thought about flowers for the church - hope someone puts something in so I don't have to bother ?

    Blimey!

Popr vicar... He must have to deal with her on a regular basis!

At least he permitted you to have the flowers you wanted & IMO he is far more important than her.

I can see why you're cheesed off, I would be fuming... There's no need for bad manners and being rude.

Jeez - bet no wonder you are peefed off. I've met some pretty snotty church ladies in my time but she sounds a right battle-axe! If you've cleared it with the vicar, then she'll just be miffed because he/she has overruled the 'norm'. Hope you get it sorted OK.

Perhaps you could arrange to meet her in person to discuss it and take her a bunch of daffodils to smooth things over Smiley winking

In all seriousness, she sounds like a bit of a jobs worth. If the vicar has okayed it then I am sure all will be fine Smiley laugh

Ooh! That would have annoyed me aswell!

I work as a florist and honestly, some of these ladies that do the church flowers can be a nightmare! They're very particular about what's in there sometimes and I don't think they always appreciate brides coming in and mucking it up! Haha. I would also say you've probably picked the worst weekend of the year where the "church flower ladies" are concerned!

I've had ladies come into the shop before to enquire about a brides flowers to see if it fits in with what they want!

Doesn't sound like you've been unreasonable and as long as the vicar gives you the go ahead that's all that matters I'd say!

Haha thanks all. She is definitely a battle axe! Great phrase!

I'll call the vicar if I don't get a reply to my email, just not what I needed!!

I know it must've been annoying, especially at the end of a work day but it sounds like this woman is a bit bonkers! A vicar having an idea for his own church!! - he'll probably be thrilled that you've stood up to her strangle-hold on flowers ?

Try to just go with what the vicar says and ignore her; I'm sure he has a lot of experience dealing with her.

It is very unusual for flowers to be brought into the church at a time of mourning though - my friend was getting married on easter sunday and she contacted several churches. 4 point blank refused to marry her and the other 3 said no flowers at all

its a somber time for the church - i'm surprised the vicar agreed to it to be honest

hope you get it sorted xx

Were it the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday I'd agree but Easter Sunday is in fact a happy day. It's the end of lent during which time there are no flowers.

Apologies I didn't read it properly - I agree with Easter Sunday being a happy day I assumed it was Good Friday by her saying its forbidden xx

I book group visits in as part of my job and I've dealt with a LOT of church ladies like that. They all think they know best and they can tell you what to do. In fact they cannot! My customers will have to lump our payment terms and this one will have to lump the vicar's decision on your flowers Smiley smile

All sorted! Went to church this morning and he apologized and said everything was fine with our flowers and he was sorry because I didn't need the call I got and he was very lovely and apologetic about it all!

It was amazing I made church really as I only got in from my hen night at 1am!
