Sorry another Maldives question for those who have been/are going!!!

AutumnRose, 24 February, 2009 at 18:31 Posted on Planning 0 2

Would you mind telling me which companies you found the best deals with? I have been phoning around a few places today and getting much higher quotes than i expected.

Most places are telling me 6/7K for 10 days all inclusive. Originally we wanted to do 3 nights in Dubai and then 10 days in maldives but can't if it's going to be that much. We wanted to pay 5K max!!! Which i thought was going to be plenty.......☹️ And more than that if we wanted a water villa which i would love......

Is that unrealistic?!

    Hi Autumnrose.

We went to the Maldives last june and it was AMAZING. It is the best place in the world! We spent £3k for 2 weeks all inclusive. It wasnt our honeymoon so we didnt go all out at the best resort etc but believe me that the place is so amazing that it doesnt matter where you are staying coz its beautiful! We went to Sun Island resort - it is one of the largest islands and was perfect for us - H2B is very active and had to have his arm twisted that 2 weeks in the Maldives was for him so this was a perfect compromise. So much to do and if you are going in May, June or early July really quiet so if you want to keep yourself to yourself you can alternatively you can meet people and be sociable if you want. Food was amazing and they offered loads of good trips. My big tip would be dont book a water villa (or the top level room) before you go - a) when you get there it is cheaper b) we had always planned to have a water villa but when we got there we loved our little villa and its private beach and felt that it was better to stay where we were - they really werent worth the extra. plus the room next to ours was empty so we felt very secluded.

Basically in short there are certainly ways to do the Maldives at a lot less than £6/7k and i cant tell you how beautiful it is - dont worry about booking the most expensive coz even a 3* is out of this world!

We found Thomson to be the cheapest but you could also try Travel council - they have arranged our honeymoon to Kenya and have done it cheaper than I could find on my own. Particularly helpful if you are doing a multi centre coz they do all the messing for you

Anyway hope this helps - feel free to email me with questions if you have any!!

    x

Oh that's really useful thank you?

That sounds like a possible place for us as h2b is way more active than me and will want to do some watersports etc. It's just so confusing with all the islands and companies etc!!!

Glad to hear we will be able to go for our budget, i got quite upset yesterday when i thought it wouldn't be possible!!!

We're going with Kuoni but only because I wanted to fly out with a scheduled rather than a chartered airline. We're going to Meeru and I have heard on the Meeru forums that the prices have jumped quite a lot since last year due to the exchange rates and extortinate flight surcharges.

We're paying just under £10k for 15 nights all inclusive in a land villa but thats for 4 adults and 2 children so your budget should be do-able.
