Sorry-another question! Tartans?

Bobbys_Girl, 16 June, 2008 at 12:35 Posted on Planning 0 9

Ok, how do these work? Me and my OH are both English but our son was born in Scotland, we live near Glasgow. I was thinking of having B in a complete kilt set o be our pageboy at our blessing.

Our name doesnt have a tartan. Ive heard you can get tartans for non-clan members-also have a Naval connection through my OH and Dad

Any ideas?

    Hey

You dont have to be Scottish to wear a Tartan, and you can wear any tartan that you like. We have arranged for all the boys to wear a tartan. its normally nice if the wedding party (men) wear the same one. I think the all black kilt is nice and you can get that for little ones too.

Cool, thankyou Naomi. It would only be my son in a kilt as page boy-would this look odd?

Think I may find one to match my bms dresses then xx

We are both Scottish however neither of our family names has a tartan to represent it. We just chose our colour scheme for the wedding, which is green and purple, and found a tartan that we both liked from there. My sister did the same for her wedding. She didnt like the tartan connected to her hubbys name so he just picked the tartan he liked which was the SRU tartan. Personally I dont think people get too hung up on clan tartans anymore (I might be wrong).

    HTH.

Cool, thanyou for this. I was just worried it would look strange using the wrong tartan but tbh none of our families would have a clue and there will only be 2 scottish friends there anyway who Im sure wont mind lol

Oh no he wont look odd its always nice to see a little boy in a kilt, he will get lots of looks and lots of pennys put in the sporan. best things to do is many pick a tartan that goes with your colours.

The whole clang thngs doesnt bother people anymore. i have a tartan but is horrible so we arent going anywhere near it LOL

There are loads of 'general' tartans, but like everyone else said it doesn't matter these days - just pick one you like the look of unless you want to try and find a link somewhere ? I think wee ones look gorgeous in kilts - there was a 15 month old at a wedding I was filming last week and he had a full kilt and belt with one of the shirts with the open-tied neck... I think they hired it at geoffrey taylor's in Glasgow ?

meant to add - whereabouts outside Glasgow are you getting married? My H has used a place in Clydebank business park to hire kilts before and I'm sure they had kiddie ones too ?

You could go in and see the people in MacKenzie menswear in Glasgow. We are getting our mens kilts form there. They are really good.

    ?

We arent getting married in Glasgow, getting married in Plymouth, all my family and the majority of my friends are there so it makes more sense than getting them all up here. Thinking its going to make planning this a nightmare but hey ho!

Will check out the Clydebank one as we are close to there in Helensburgh, thanks ebee xx
