Sort of OT- Anybody from or know Birmingham?

Tracey86, 16 June, 2012 at 09:01 Posted on Planning 0 7

I'm having my hen do in Birmingham, we're going to see the Dirty Dancing show at the Hippodrome and staying overnight at the travelodge on Upper Dean Street.

We're hoping to have a meal out in the evening and then a few drinks (it won't be a mad night as I don't really drink and my Mum and MIL2B are coming along) I know we are very close to the Arcadian and there seems to be some nice bars there for our drinks but I can't seem to decide on a restaurant for our meal.

Can anybody recommend anywhere that serves good food at a reasonable price and that won't mind us taking a good few hours to eat our meal and have a relaxing evening of food, wine and chatting. It needs to be within easy walking distance of Upper Dean Street as my Mum has back problems and struggles to walk long distances.

Thanks

    Meeeeee I'm from B'Ham!

Yes there are some good bars etc around the Arcadian, but if you want a nice meal before the (proper) drinking commences I would probably say have a look at the Mailbox there are some good restaurants there and also Brindley Place which is next to Broad Street where again there are lots of bars etc for the drinking & dancing part of the night! I am not too sure exactly where Upper Dean Street is, however there are lots of taxi ranks and to taxi between all these places would be a few £ only.

I hope that helps, let me know if you need anything else!xx

    Hi, I'm from Birmingham.

WHat sort of food are you after, is there anything in particular you do/dont like? THere is a beautiful CHinese on Thorpe Street (Its a teeny little one way street, about a 5 minute walk from your hotel called Chung Yin Garden Cantonese (they have a sister restaurant called the old chung ying, but I've not been there). Also, you will be at the back of the bull ring, so check out their website for foody places, including a Jamie Oliver Italian restaurant and a lovely bistro typed place called Browns.

Both have pros and cons. The chinese is a five minute walk from your hotel and about 30 seconds from the theatre. The Bull Ring restaurants are the other way around.

Hope this helps, and have fun!

    Hi,

I live in Birmingham. If your going out in the Arcadian then you have Las Iguanas. You can have drinks in there too. I went there for my hen do before we went out in the Arcadian. Had a great time.

I'm not from Birmingham, but originally from nearby Coventry. I can second the recommendations for Las Iguanas. Their food is delicious and they do a lovely selections of cocktails! (I'd recommend their Caipirinha! Yum!)

    Thanks very much everyone.

I don't mind what sort of food we have really just not Indian as I'm not a fan of creamy curries. We have got one really fussy hen, so as long as there is something relatively plain for her on the menu then it's all good.

I'll check out all of those suggestions.

    Thanks again

No idea about Birmingham but can recommend 100% Las Iguanas (they have one in Cambridge)...

I've been to Zizzi's at the back of the mailbox with my hubby and been on a hen nite there too. It's Italian and I love the food. You would need to book though. There are nice bars and pubs to drink in alog the stretch.

Here is a link to their site:

I am from Birmingham and I can absolutely recommend Chung Ying Gardens, literally down a side road just past the Hippodrome (to the right if you're facing it). The food there is amazing; best crispy duck and the most amazing squid you'll ever have in your life. I eat there whenever I am back home!

They're always super accommodating when me and my massive family descend on them. Enjoy your hen night and let me know if you go to Chung Yings!
