Sort of OT - Manchester nights out

Jay-Low, 5 May, 2010 at 13:18 Posted on Planning 0 5

I am bridesmaid for one of my close friends who is getting married in August. Her hen do is a weekend away but is going to include a Saturday night out in Manchester. None of the 'hens' have ever been there. Can anybody who has recommend a good bar/club??

We are a small group 5/6 ranging between the ages of 26-34. Music wise we would be most interested in something pretty comercial/dancy/poppy or even 80s and want to avoid partying with a bunch of 18 year old students if possible (nothing against them - I was on once!!!)

Any suggestions? I have googled a bit and thought that The Bird Cage might be worth a look but I wouldn't want to go anywhere unless I got a recommendation for it.

    Hi,

I'm going to The Birdcage in Leeds for my hen party and I can't wait. You could always go to the Hilton for cocktails then get a taxi to the Printworks, there are plenty of bars/restaurants in there, then you can walk across to The Birdcage.

I've been advised that pre-booking a table is a must at The Birdcage otherwise you struggle to see anything x

Im a manc an may be biased but love it for a night out! The locks are great but the music wouldnt be too cheesy or fun, they are mostly bars but its never full of younger crowds but say 20s n up! O'sheas is great for live bands! and always the safer obvious options of walkabout!

Manchester City Centre is made up of lots of little areas, I would probably stick with one or two areas.

Birdcage is nice, it's near the Printworks where there are loads of trendy bars.

You have the Castlefield / Deansgate Locks areas, which are close together and have some really trendy bars, Revolution vodka bar and Bar Bar being 2 fab ones. And only round the corner from Cloud 23, which is an exclusive bar in the Hilton Hotel, but you will need to book for.

Northern Quarter is fab, if you are dining I recommend Bem Brazil and then onto Walrus or Bluu.

Deansgate has some trendy bars if you don't mind walking, but it is quite a long road. You're probably best staying up near the Cafe Rouge End.

Black Dog Ballroom in Piccadilly is nice if you like a game of pool. We dined there aswell, it was lovely.

I would stay clear of Oxford Road/Street if you want to avoid the student areas.

We have a mile of curry restaurants in Rusholme which is worth visiting maybe later on, they are all open very late. It is known as the curry mile.

My fave place and one if you want to treat yourself to a scrummy cocktail, but again you need to book well in advance is Panacea. THE BEST!!!

Hope this is of some help, this website is good too.

Thanks ladies, this is all REALLY helpful. Especially about all the different parts of Manchester - I kept seeing reference to this on various websites and now I know what they are going on about!! I'm going to do a bit more research armed with all your info and then consult the bride to be for a final decision xx

I echo what others said. There are loads of cocktails bars in Manchester in the Northern Quarter so you could always do a cocktail session? Hula and Walrus are of note! So many nice bars round there.

For cheesy music hit either Printworks, albeit a bit chavvy and expensive it is fun - and also there is always Canal Street in the gay village - always a good night out!! xxx
