So, after helping a couple of fellow hitchers very briefly... I thought ok. Maybe I should go for it and create a blog. Who would be happy/interested to come on board and help me out?

i would like to do something where people offer up mugshots and I can answer questions and give advice tailored specifically to them. I think bridal make up and hitched traffic would be a great starting point - or main focus. So basically any of you lovely ladies who have asked me questions so far and really found the advice helpful, or the few of you who have got in touch with me outside of the original thread... It would be lovely to have your support...?

As sad as it sounds I don't live with my H2B (he works away from home) and I'm raising our daughter mostly alone. It would be nice yo have something to dabble in in the evenings Smiley smile

any input/thoughts/advice gratefully received. I'm a fragile flower though so try not to slam me if you think I'm nuts Smiley winking

    Hello!

I followed your last thread when you gave such great advice to the lovely ladies and thought it was fabulous! I was most impressed with the amount of detail you gave them and recommendations you made. I haven't booked a MUA yet so I found it enlightening. As someone who only wears makeup occasionally I don't really have a clue what's what and someone who is willing to help is a gift!

I think you'll be fab very busy answering questions!! xox

I think its a wonderful idea! I would love to wear more makeup than I currently do but havent a clue what would suit me, or how to apply it. I'd quite happily be a guinea big for your blog ?

Count me in! Advice you have given so far is fab and really helpful to get an unbiased view. You could also support your blog with videos on tutorials / product reviews etc.

From my point of view it is so hard to know what is worth splurging on and were you can get away with cheaper alternatives, what lives up to the hype etc!! There is so much choice it is somewhat daunting for someone not in the industry!! xx

Sounds a super idea, given that more and more brides are choosing to do their own make up.

I didn't read all your last thread - but you suggested Touche Eclait to one bride - I'd heard that was a massive no no for photography though? I may be wrong!

Have you looked at makeup tutorials on Youtube? I'm sure you have - but I think those are the way forward, they are certainly the most useful source when I'm looking for know-how or inspiration. There is definitely room though for creating a blog with video tutorials and lots of interactivity with readers? Great financial income from a popular blog too, if you know what you're doing.

My advice though would be not to aim for lots of traffic, get yourself set up first, find your voice and your place in the blogging community and let a couple of loyal readers come to you and the rest will grow naturally, if you have a good formula. I used to be a blogger and there was nothing worse than other bloggers whose only aim was self promotion.

    Also ...

    Bless you xx

This is a great idea - even though I'm not getting married for over a year, makeup is already there nagging at the back of my mind and aso any information is useful. I really want to make sure I look like myself on my wedding day and so really not sure if I want to go down the MUA route, but don't have a huge amount of makeup knowledge myself...

I emailed you back before I read this and actually suggested you do something along these lines, haha. I find it far less intimidating talking to somebody over the internet than in real life. I have real issues with feeling like I'm being judged (long story) but because I can't misread your body language or facial expressions with you being nowhere near me, it means I can talk to you more openly! Plus, if I did feel intimidated, it's easier to just stop talking to somebody over the internet than in real life.

Great idea! SW is right, start small - look at other blogs/tutorials to see what works and maybe read some of the threads on Get Off My Internets for what not to do (not too many though, or you'll get totally disheartened!) My friend runs a plus size fashion blog (pinkgemma.com if anyone is interested) and by using hashtags on twitter and instagram etc, she's established herself quite quickly and gets invites to events and freebies etc. So it definitely can be done.

    Ditto Smiley smile

I think it's an amazing idea and it should be a hit with every woman that posts you a mug shot. I think it would be great if you could source the make up that you recommend too (if you have time) as it has taken me ages to figure out which Urban Decay Sin to buy Smiley smile By the way I have bought; Bobbi Brown foundation and concealer/highlighter combi, urban decay naked 1 palette and urban decay sin primer potion. I'm incredibly happy with my purchases and as a follow on for me from your first post it would be great to be able to come back to you and ask how to apply the concealer, highlighter and primer potion. I'm confident with the rest. I still can't thank you enough and I think that your blog will be brilliant, including the name!

That made me chuckle! Have you resorted to going to bed by 2100hrs because you've ran out of cleaning/weeding/ironing? I often do and then end up going to work earlier and earlier...0630hrs this morning Smiley smile

I went shopping today and saw a Bobbie Brown consultant and a Clinique consultant - Clinique gave me a sample of the foundation but both asked me to go back in a few months - after Christmas in case my skin changes. Makes sense I suppose Smiley sad was hoping to have an exciting day but no. Found a Smashbox counter but the girl was busy with others and also a bare minerals - that was unattended - not been a great day on the make up front. I get the asking me to go back nearer the time but I'd deliberately gone with no make up on lol was hoping they might do something Smiley sad

I'm clearly doing something wrong - I see loads of people just rock up and getting a makeover Smiley sad

Pammy..that's pants! I need to spend when I'm in the mood and nothing is more disappointing than not being able to complete that task. I went onto the Bobbi Brown website and they have an online consultant so I just typed in what the 'make up Dr' said. I got the foundation and concealer 48hrs later and I gave it a go last night. I'm a little bit impressed Smiley smile

Well done you. Glad you're impressed Smiley smile I need to do samples before buying foundation as too often I find in natural daylight it looks wrong. I was "colour matched" twice on those machines by boots and Elizabeth Arden and both times the foundation was awful in real light. Smiley sad came out from and Elizabeth Arden foundation test a few months ago and looked like the child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang only orange lol.

I think that's why I'm impressed because I had the colour match by Boots and as was pointed out mine was too brown. I'll do a full make up in a few weeks as it's so time consuming!

Ha, i don't iron! H2B is in the army, he is much much faster than i am. I do however find myself in a fairly boring routine which is unsettling when it gets thrown off by H2B's journeys from the south to see me. it is funny what you get used to doing on your own!

I'm still struggling with foundation too. Recently got Clinique Redness Relief but I just don't like the feel of it and don't think it's doing anything for my redness. This morning I've tried a Paula's Choice one but I feel like I sweated it all off before I even got to work!

Sounds like a fantastic plan. My big problem is dark circles under my eyes, and if you could fix that you would be a saviour. Sending you a pic would be a tiny price to pay (I hate pics of my face!)

I know what you mean, my OH is overseas so I can go up to 3 and half months by myself and I have to consciously let go when he comes home (but he still doesn't hoover the house in the right order)

Thanks all. I'm happy to help anyone who needs helping, I'm still working my way through a long list of people. My email is in alyj's original thread if you want to contact me there.

pammy, it's such a shame you had a negative experience. It's certainly not something I would have said to you. I'm shocked Clinique didn't go down the route of offering to monitor your skin and offer monthly check ups and make up lessons in the run up. It's the least I would do. Try another department store if possible and persevere. This will sound awful but tell the next consultant you see of your bad experiences. Try not to name drop or bad mouth but enforce the idea that you have has negative counter experiences. Any consultant worth their salt will pull their socks up to help you.

i wish you were local to me so I could work with you and sort this out! As the togs so often say, such bad service really grinds my gears!

Inked doll, that's not unusual to hear about redness solutions. The texture does put people off... It's either an application issue or a genuine aversion to the texture. I'm not currently aware of other foundations that are specifically designed to cover redness but there are a lot of primers on the market that claim to minimise it (Clinique, smashbox, no7 and more). You can try these and include a yellow toned foundation to help cancel the redness. Do you wear blusher? Correctly applied on top of foundation blusher actually helps minimise redness too by optical illusion. It "concentrates" high colouring to the areas with blush so it looks more... "Meant to be".

A powder foundation may also be a good option. I would recommend bare minerals but it does run a risk of flashback... It has ingredients in it that reflect. Speak to a bare minerals rep and do some serious internet research before going down that route and committing to it for a wedding but it could be an option for you in day to day life

    HTH xxx

Thank you again for your help this weekend!

I used my BareMinerals/Dior combination for the second time today, it held up so well on a hot day stuck on a training course! Shine free forehead!! This will definitely be my day to day make up from now on, just need to find something SPF free for the wedding now!!

Good luck with your blog- awesome idea! x

    Hi,

    love reading this thread!

I'm hoping you could help me with a concealer to use...

I've just bought a lipstick and mascara from Lancôme and got a free sample of their Teint Miracle foundation (02) and so far I really like it and am so hoping it doesn't do the whole 'ghosting' thing in photos? Can you recommend a concealer to go with it to cover up a few pesky spots and and blemishes? I've read about Estée Lauder double wear concealer but does that do the 'ghosting' thing as their foundation does?

Also, a good eye primer before applying eye shadow?

would so appreciate a bit of advice! Getting married in 4 weeks! ??
