speaking of wedding planning... what is the worst wedding you have attended?

I have been to loads of weddings over the years... most of them were wonderful and I had a blast. There were a couple that were bad. One of them was bad cos it finished really early and we had travelled miles to get there, and we went back to the bandb and were like, "now what?".

The worst was a wedding of my friend... we stayed in this horrible hotel in a horrible town (the hotel looked lovely from the outside but was like a travel tavern)- we stayed there the night before the wedding and had nothing to do (there were no nice pubs, just horrible scanky ones). On the wedding day after the actual wedding we were waiting around for ages in the scorching heat in the church car park whilst the photos were taken (I imagine the pics didn't even look that great, it was literally a gravelly car park). It prob took an hour, we were literally standing around getting sunstroke getting hungrier and hungrier whilst they posed for photos. Eventually we went to the hotel for the reception (the same one we were staying at). We waited there for another hour before the bride and groom turned up (I could have chewed their arm off I was so hungry)- apparently they had gone upstairs to their room for a lie down- or at least that was their story... We were so relieved when they said that the speeches would wait til after we had eaten. The food was a serve yourself buffet, there were 200 guests and our table was called last (actually people were going for seconds before we had firsts), by the time we got there, there were ribs and half a cheese sandwich (I am vegetarian so that is all I got, half a sandwich!) and a couple of apricot tarts. She had obviously under-catered.

I remember the wedding so well for all the wrong reasons! The reason it was so bad was that the guests were uncomfortable, being made to wait around in the heat and not providing food on time and not enough!

I am not spending loads on my wedding but I am going to make sure that there is too much food. Lots and lots of food and I am not having a buffet- this experience has put me right off!

They didn't disappear off for ages in a limo did they to get pictures taken? My friend went to an almost identical wedding to the one you've just described!

    Love this thread!

Mine is more a wedding reception as the couple got married abroad. MrMini and I traveled about 4 hours to get to the brides hometown, booked a hotel for 2 nights etc etc but were quite excited at the prospect of a weekend away.

Cut along story short we got all suited and booted and eyeliner-ed up and trotted along to the venue [a £25 taxi ride later as it was middle of no where] to find a church hall with no decoration, and people in jeans! There was no bar so there were 3 wine boxes [for 90 odd guests] and a load of plastic glasses. When the buffet was ready the mother of the bride banged a ladle on the table and shouted "fooooooods ready" [class]

The bride diddnt have her dress on and the whole thing was over in 2 hours. No cake, no 1st dance, nothing to indicate you were at a wedding at all.

We ended up in Nandos back in town eating at 9pm as we were starving and quite in need of a drink!

Did anyone see Four Weddings US last night - on one of the weddings, any guests who didn't RSVP were shifted outside while all the 'proper' guests were served their dinner LOLOL
