What are spectacle-wearing brides wearing on their special day?

I have to wear glasses all the time, my vision is blurry without, did use contact lenses occasionally about 10 years ago, not sure about how I'd get on with them now just for one day.

I got some trendy floral framed glasses with wedding in mind but OH doesn't like them Smiley sad So not sure if I should just get some different, lighter ones or give contacts a go.

OH wears specs too, but will just be wearing his normal ones I think.

I'm going for contacts. I only wear glasses now but not keen on wearing them on the day. Tried contacts once years ago and hated them. Decided to try again about two months ago and got on grand with them. I've been liking using them for nights out - it's amazing having good periphoral vision!!

I've started wearing contact lenses again with the wedding in mind. I used to wear them years ago, but because I don't blink properly and my eyelids don't meet (yes, I'm a freak!) my eyes tend to dry out really easily. But they have brought out new contacts now which allow much more oxygen into your eyes and my new ones are really comfy. I can wear them all day and have been told I can sleep in them for up to six nights in a row, although I've not tried it!

I'd just like to add that it's not noticeable when you look at me, that my eyelids don't meet - I wasn't even aware of it till I went to the opticians!

    I would really recomend contacts!

As someone who has worn glasses for a long time, the thought of contacts filled me with dread, after lots of thinking I went into specsavers who were fab and decided that I'd give them a go!

I had an appointment about 4 weeks ago, they felt fine in my eyes but getting it out of my left eye proved to be more difficult than I'd first thought. I went back twice after that and they staff were so patient and helpful, each time we just practiced putting them in and out until i was confident enough to take them home. Finally after what seemed like forever and seeing the staff more often than my friends I had managed it and now feel confident with them, I will only wear them for social occasions and weekends etc but it really is something worth doing, even if you do only wear them for your wedding!

I'm a specs wearer and will be doing so for my wedding. I've never used contacts (the last time i went for a trial they didn't do proper lenses strong enough - I have a bad astigmatism) so the option isn't there Also, my OH has always known me with glasses and said it would be weird getting married to glasses-less me.

Also, I don't want to look back on my wedding pics in 5/10 years time and not recognise myself.

So, I am just going to be wearing my normal specs. I got a new prescription over the summer so got new frames as well (old ones i loved, quite thick plasticy red/brown ones), but figured for the wedding i'd want something a bit more delicate. The ones I have now are wire-framed so a big change, but I think they'll be nice enough on the day.

Don't really know if that helps at all, but it's what I'm doing Smiley smile

I am a specs wearer and wear several different styles day to day but when I go out socially in the evening I wear contacts. I will be wearing contacts on my wedding day.

I'd give the contacts another go. I wear glasses all the time - they are the first thing I put on and the last thing I take off. Hever I do use daily disposable lenses for going out/swimming etc and will be wearing lenses for my wedding. If the last time you used lenses was 10 years ago, they have changed a lot since then. The materials are a lot more comfortable and they seem easier to put in. My first pair of contacts 15 years ago hurt like mad but I was 16 and happy to go through the pain! These days you don't even realise they are there.

There is nothing wrong with wearing glass., but to me I always feel very serious and dresses for work in my specs.

If you do decide to stick with the specs then I'd go with something very light and elegant.

I'm a specs wearer, all day every day since I was 8. But a few years ago I decided to try contacts so I could get used to them for my wedding day (no - I wasn't even close to being engaged then but I was obsessed with not wearing specs on the big day!) I wear contacts on nights out now and that's what I'll be doing on the wedding day. You just have to do what's comfortable for you. Bear in mind if you're not a regular lens wearer your wedding day might not be the best time to try them out. If you do wear them make sure your bridesmaid has eye drops with her for the inevitable drying out in the evening!

If you can wear contacts, than I would. I did, as usually do if going out, but wear glasses most days. If you look back at pics from years ago, you see how dated sunnies and normal glasses can make you look, so didnt want that.

This is weird, I was just considering this myself today and had decided to come on here this evening and start a thread, and someone has beaten me to it!

I planned to buy some glasses that will look more 'bridal' as my current ones are chunky black and gold ones. I wanted to wear specs as I don't think I look like me without! However after thinking about it, I hate the thought of wearing glasses in all the photos, so now I don't know what to do!

I also tried contacts about 5 years ago, and then again a year ago and found them irritating. I might have to try them again, just to see!

After chickening out of my lenses trial appointment last year I gavce it a go a few weeks ago as the more I looked in the mirror the more I realised it would be too much with tiara , earrings, glasses! And I will be wearing my contact lenses on the day - i have just got my last appointment at Specsavers over with and bought a healthy supply of lenses. I feel ace with them and my vision is also blurred without for distance. I can't distinguish someone's face clearly until they are about 18 feet away!

    With glasses:

I'm wearing glasses, they are part of who I am. I don't understand why there is a huge push to change into contacts or invisible frames just because your getting married. No one would ever recognise me if I just started to wear contacts to get married in. Like it or not the whole style of the wedding is going to date. My parents wedding photos scream 1980's and that is because they got married in 1984 not because my Mum was wearing glasses.

I'm wearing these bad boys from glasses direct to match my shoes (on purpose)

Thanks for all your replies, it's interesting to see the responses.

I'm still a bit torn, as although I think contacts can give you more confidence, tbh I'm not sure I need any, as although I'm quiet, I'm fairly self-assured. I'm not particularly vain as there are both more important and more fun things to worry about, so not worried about looking 'dated'. Although I'm avoiding my usual reactions lenses, which prevent my forehead from frowning when squinting in sunlight, as I want to be able to see my eyes in the photos (although they'll probably be shut as I'm a terrible blinker!).

I also think glasses are part of who I am, and how everyone important accepts me. And you can still look beautiful with glasses as demonstrated by VikingPrincess! Love your earrings by the way! As for distance, I can't even see my reflection in an adjacent mirror clearly without glasses, which isn't much fun at the hairdressers.

Saying all this, it can't hurt just to try contact lenses just in case I do like them, so I may well do.

Vikingprincess- I hope you don't mind me saying, but I think you look better with your specs!

As a lifelong specs wearer I cannot imagine not wearing them on the day. Infact I was absolutely appalled when two people on the same day suggested otherwise!
