Speeches, first dance...

Matb, 13 May, 2009 at 22:55 Posted on Planning 0 1

Hi all,

As the groom, I have to give a speech of some description. 11 days to go and nothing down yet, i'm starting to feel like I should get my act together! Does anybody have any advice for this? I don't want to step on anyone's toes by making it a funny speech (that's for my two best men to do) but i think adding a little comedy will help me through it.

While i'm here begging for help, I might as well throw this one in there too, and ask if anyone knows any good stunt doubles for my first dance - I'll be stepping on my new wife's toes to "Greatest day" by Beverley Knight - it's an up-beat song but I don't think I can really go into that all guns blazing. If you could see the video of my stag night from Saturday just gone, dancing with the Hen's sash in the streets of london, you'd feel my concern!

Thanks for any tips

Cheers

Mat

My top 3 tips for grooms speech:

    1) Keep it simple

    2) Keep it heartfelt

    3) Keep it short ?

Awesome song choice for the first dance. The best tip if you're uncomfortable with your dancing ability is to invite the guests on to the floor after a short dance together. OR just go for it, remembering that everyone there knows you, cares about you both and will cheer like mad regardless of your lack of dancing ability.

How about including things about being part of your new wife's family....you could probably include an interesting or amusing anecdote about when you first met them. Include support from your own family. And most importantly....your new wife (and that needs to come from the heart....noone can write that bit for you)

On the first dance nightmare....just make sure the DJ/band know that after 20 seconds you want them to come on the mic and invite your guests or even just the wedding party to join you.
