Speed of Forum

Evil Yoda, 23 July, 2009 at 23:00 Posted on Feedback to Hitched 0 33

Is anything going to be done about the speed of the forums? Personally I am not posting as frequently as I used to due to how slow the pages take to load.

There is a thread on OT at the moment called 'So, what's changed' and it seems that there are lots of us that have either left, thinking of leaving or don't post as much due to the slowness of the forums.

Agree with Yoda. I gave up posting last night because it was just too painful. I tried twice to post a reply on the 'what's changed thread' then gave up.

It is extremely slow today, taking literally a minute to upload my posts.

It's been painfully slow for me for so long. 4 minutes to get to the forum last week!

Oddly, it seems quicker for me tonight?

I have tested my connection speed and Hitched is the only site I have problems with.

I agree. It's so slow, both to load / change pages and to post. I used to Hitch for hours in the evening but now I look in every now and again to see what's going on but rarely post as I just don't get the time to wait around for it.

Is there anything that can be done?

Ditto the above. I can no longer hitch at work as it's excrutiatingly slow. Home is better (my connection speed is better) but still so slow that I can't be bothered with it half the time. Why is is so bad?

It's really quite on here these days compared to how it used to be when I was a member years ago. It's sooooo slow.

I have been on for six or seven minutes and have only been able to open one thread on OT. Not reply, not browse through pages, that long to just open one thread. I'm logging off and not bothering again for the evening.

Just to note tonight is the worst it's been for a long time for me. Taking an age to load threads and respond and refresh pages.

I completly agree with you all on this one. It is an absolute nightmare to get around this site, I have never known a forum to be so blooming slow.

I have also given up responding to alot of posts as it is too time consuming

Another one who's fed up. It seems to be getting worse and worse.

It would also be really nice if posts on this board were at least acknowledged, kthxbai.

Wondering if anyone is reading this at the moment? Has there been a reply from Darren or Dean?

Another one that is wondering if anything is going to be done about the speed of the forum. I thought it was just me, hadn't realised everyone else had the same problems.

I wonder if anyone actually from Hitched.co.uk even reads these posts. The vibrancy of the forums is, imo, what set Hitched apart from all the other wedding sites. Leaving the forums to die a slow and painful death makes no sense. At least an acknowledgement would be something...

I gave up last night as every time I tried to go into see things I got an error screen. I would say about 80% of the time. It says that the error has been noted, but since nothing has been done about it I doubt it.

The good thing about it being so slow is that my hitched addiction is disappearing.

I used to be able to keep myself entertained all evening on hitched, but now it is getting boring and I have definitely lost my addiction.

It's been absolutely shocking the last couple of days.

I'd have left by now I think except I do have friends here and also likely to need the support of baby talk in the not too distant future.

I agree some acknowledgment of the problems would be good.

Speed is the slowest it's ever been for me now. No wonder there is so much less activity on the forums, making them nowhere near as vibrant as they once were. It's very sad really.

    Guys,

Sorry the delay in replying. I've been away for a couple of weeks due to a combination of holiday and sick (at least one was fun)

We are looking at what we can do. I've ordered a new server this week which should be in place by the end of next week but we are also seeing if there is anything we can do from coding point of view as well.

Please be assured we are as concered as everyone else at the performance and are looking at what we can do.

    Regards

    Dean

    Thanks Dean

It's not always slow, but more often than not it is. Especially in the evening (UK time, mid afternoon for me), so not sure if it's over-use of the forum or your server is just knackered at the end of the day, like the rest of us!

Glad you're on the mend too.

Glad to see Dean is on the case - the last few days it's been the first time I've noticed it, I use a decent broadband connection at home and have a T1 connection at work so no way should the site be loading slowly really. Today it's shocking and it's losing us hitchers hand over fist who just can't be bothered anymore.

Over the last couple of weeks it's been ridiculously slow opening forum pages for me never mind the losing of half typed posts etc. Hopefully something can be done as it would be a shame for more of us to leave.

Just an idea. Not everyone reads this section. Perhaps it would have been nice to make Dean's post a sticky on each of the other boards so as many people as possible could see that you are actually doing something?

    A quick update.

The build of the new additional server is due to be complete by the end of today. It will then take us a couple of days to practice/test moving the database between the servers as we are also going to upgrade to SQL2008 at the same time. I expect us to do the live cutover one evening next week.
