policeman had a hand held device [gun?] and said they were doing 57 in a 30

is this automatic court summons or will they get away with a fine and 3 points

anyone ever done 27 over the speed limit and been caught ? if so did you have to go to court , anyone know anything about it i have googled but its coming up with different info

I think that'll be a court job! I assume she was pulled oevr and details taken after she was caught, or has she received a letter in the post?

I would have thought that far over the limit would result in going to court.

how did they think it was 60? was everyone else going that fast?

I know someone caught doing 35 over on a motorway, which resulted in going to court and getting a 3 month ban plus a £250 fine.

I'm no authority but seem to remember hearing that 30 over on the motorway is looked on more 'favourably' (not the right word but I can't think of the right one!) than 30 over in a 30 zone.

A friend of mine got done doing 50+ on a country lane which had recently gone from national speed limit to a 30 limit. She'd forgotten (no defence, she realises), got pulled over, went to court and ended up with points and a two week ban. Glos Constabulary was having a bit of a clampdown at the time so she may just have been very unfortunate. She wasn't expecting the ban and had driven to the magistrates' court so the moral is take someone with you just in case. ?

I think it's a % thing tbh, that's nearly double the limit, so I suspect it will be fairly harsh.

<disclaimer> Not proud of myself and have slowed down significantly since....

I got caught doing 77 in a 50 zone (dual carriageway) by a mobile unit. I was 1mph over the fixed penalty window and so it had to go to court. I was expecting at the least 6 points and a £1000 fine and consider myself very lucky to have only got 5 points and a £100 fine.

I didn't have to appear in court but had to fill in a form to do it postally. I admitted I had been very foolish but also explained that I was overtaking someone in a rush to get back to work after a hospital appointment. I tried to strike the balance between admitting blame and explaining my circumstances.

I hope your friend will be as lucky as me.

Just out of interest were the streetlights clearly visible and not miles apart?

My brother was doing 62 in a 30 2 years ago and got pulled over... he had to go to court and he got no points!! a £200 fine and a 28 day ban. Not affected his insurance since! Smiley smile Wish your friend good luck. (My bro was also on a country road just after swap between 60-30! (still speeding tut tut!) And had no previous trouble with his licence) x

I was caught by a mobile unit doing just under 60 in a 30 mile zone - which had no street lights, went from national speed limit to 30 - 2 miles from the village - with just one 30 sign.

I got three points added to my licence without going to court.

They have since changed the road to show 60, 50, 40 , 30 over the two miles because apparently everytime they did that bit of road, they didn't have enough manpower to stop all the cars speeding!
