Starbucks

Sunset21, 15 July, 2008 at 10:32 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 24

Does anyone use Starbucks on a regular basis? We tend to have a coffee whilst out shopping on a Sunday, it's always been pricey IMHO but this week I noticed that anything 'grande' is over £3 and their little butterfly cakes are about £1.50 - that just seems ridiculous. Have they put their prices up recently or have I just had my head in the sand?

Certainly won't be having that little treat anymore.

I agree it's over priced. It's not even nice coffee. The few times i've been forced to drink there my coffee has tasted old as if it's been brewing all day in the same pot iywkim.

I'm sure it was over that where we went - do the prices vary from store to store? I admit I only read the first few items on the drinks menu but they were def. all over the £3 mark.

Love the mocha frappuccinos, and I wish they did the malted ones over here - I got hooked on them when I was over in Atlanta.

As for the price, you aren't just buying a coffee, you're buying into a brand, an image, a lifestyle. That's where the extra cash goes.

i know the ones with syrup and cream and all that jazz can be lots more. i used to work with a girl who would have the venti (read mahoooosive ?) egg-nog latte thingy with extra syrup and whipped cream and it cost about £6 ?. it also had about 5000 calories ?

Egg Nog latte with extra syrup and cream sounds pretty grim...

I have a sweet tooth and egg nog latte is sweet enough as is.

I used to buy a tall coffee from Starbucks every morning on my way to work (it was 2 doors down from my office) and it only cost $1.84 which I didn't think was too bad considering I like the coffee. The other popular chain over here is Dunkin Donuts but even though the coffee is cheaper, it tastes cheaper too - it's very weak.

I love Starbucks coffee. Our gym also does a great alternative to Starbucks, which is pretty damn close in taste.

$2.73 for a tall, no fat, no foam, decaf latte (gym price), $3.20 Starbucks

Damn. I want one now! ?

I tend to go on a Sunday. Pick up the papers then read them in Starbucks and watch the world go by.

£2.40 for a grande skinny latte and I normally have a cake or muffin as a Sunday treat! Occassionally have a syrupy / creamy / calorific frapaccino type thing but get scared by the number of calories ?

600 branches have closed across the USA as the recession takes hold and at those prices I have to say it'll be the first thing we're going to be cutting back on, unfortunately though it is H's only pleasure in life lol

I prefer a costa coffee to a starbucks, not that I really notice a difference in the taste just that the new costa thats opened in my town is huge, really bright, airy and overlooks the canal b(great for people watching). Whereas the starbucks is small and really dark inside

    Ha ha. Funny!

I have it with my water! In fact, I drink so much bloody water, a no-fat, no-caffeine, no-anything coffee is extremely welcome!

My coke is the same (I have about 1 a month now, so hardly ever). Diet, caffeine free. What's the point - exactly!

The first time back to the UK after our move over here was last November. On arrival at Gatwick, prior to our drive to my Mum's, we loaded up on caffeine to keep awake.

Costa was the only coffee shop in the terminal, so it was that or nothing.

And it was soooo rank I had to throw mine away and get a Red Bull instead.

    Starbucks all the way

i was at the counter at starbucks and they had a small (tiny) packet of mints. i thought to myself "aha! i'll have these. it looks like it's worth about 50p, so i expect it's £1 here - £1.20 tops." when the woman said they were £2.50 i was outraged ??

needless to say i didn't buy them

Yes yes gorgeous but at £3.05 for the smallest size, only when the company's paying!

All the Frappaccino's are over £3 so perhaps that's what the OP saw. Yes they are pricey and also all the drinks are so large.

We have a Starbucks in our work building. I think it is subsidised.

I don't drink tea or coffee but some people have 2/3 a day - it must add up!
