Stars...

laura_c86, 14 December, 2008 at 16:07 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hello again wonderful girlies!

I've had an idea that I'd quite like to use stars as a theme running through our wedding, as they have alot of meaning to H2B and I.

So I was just wondering if anybody had spotted items along their travels that will encorporate this, especially invitations as I seem to be struggling to find any that wont cost an absolute fortune.

Thanks x

Hi, have you thought of making your own invites and buying a star cut out stamp. My mum made ours, our theme is hearts.

    Cheaper aswell!!

Star-shaped biscuits as favours / place names. Delia Smith has a good recipe which you could adapt.

You could write people's names on them instead of covering them in icing.

You can find star metallic confetti quite easily - you could sprinkle this on your tables.

What about something astronomical on the invitations, perhaps find some constellations like venus (goddess of love).

You can have dark blue cards, with sparkly silver or diamonte's for each star which makes the 'picture'

    Thanks ladies, some great ideas.

Sherrie I absolutely LOVE the silver star cupcake cake, where did that come from?

The real problem I seem to be having is finding invites with stars, how much on average should invitations cost?

I'm not really very good at all this ?

I had something similar but with hearts instead of stars. I had the cup cakes made in Gold cases & iced with white icing then bought some Icing in a tube from Asda & stuck all the stars on individually. The top tier was a Tesco Ready Iced cake & I wired a bunch of the stars together put them in a plastic pic & stuck them in the top of the cake. The stand I made from different sized cake boards & made bows & pearls & decorated them.

    Thank you!

I do like the idea of making my own invitations (I've got to use that GCSE in art for something), at least that way I'll get exactly what I want. I just don't know if I have the staminer and patients to do like 100 of them though.

I guess I do have plenty of time to make them though so I could spread it out.

    xx

    Hi Laura

Many stationery designers are usually more than happy to adapt some of their existing ranges to incorporate stars or create something especially for you, even if they don't have set star designs on their sites. A good designer would be able to give you exactly what you want (or even something you hadn't thought of but may work better) as long as you brief them well. I've made a number of star themed orders over the years so would be happy to help and discuss some ideas. There are a few other designers on here I'm sure could help too. So please don't worry that you can't find an "off the shelf" design as we are used to working to individual themes and enjoy the opportunity!

Prices for stationery will vary widely depending on whether they are 100% printed (and the print method), handmade/handfinished, and also the format you require eg portfolio style designs are usually more expensive than traditional tent fold style cards. But there are also flat layered style invitations and more unusual formats too. Many designers will also work to a given budget too and can often cut costs further by making items with a dual purpose such as combined table names and menus, place card menus, place card and favour tags, table plans incorporated in wedding programs etc.

I hope that's been of some help

    Stars - superb theme!!!

As for stationery, I totally echo what Suz says .... too many brides look at a few websites or stationery featured in wedding mags and think 'waaaay too expensive' - but most stationers will be able to work to a tight budget - for a bride recently I worked "backwards" - from finding out what she could afford to spend and designed her something using materials that would fall within her budget and it worked very well!

No bride should assume what is on websites is all thats on offer price or design wise - I have 6 orders on the go @ the moment and all but 2 are totally bespoke and costed accordingly.

So there are folk out there who could help save you both on the time it takes to make 100 invites, and also possibly money in the long run as they are likely to have trade suppliers, so access to better priced materials.
