Starting Early

The_future_Mrs_T, 16 October, 2013 at 06:12 Posted on Planning 0 9

I recently got engaged and although we haven't set a date, we are aiming for September 2016.

I've already found our photographer, venue, bought my wedding shoes and started getting bridesmaids gifts.....is it too early to be doing all of this? Should I leave it to nearer the time? We are looking at starting to book September of next year.

thanks :-)

I booked my 2015 wedding in 2012 and have loads planned already. I've got 18months to go and am pretty well organised. Im glad I did everything early, I say book what you like and buy what you like. Just be sure that what your getting is what you really want, some of my ideas have changed over the past few months but luckily it's only decor which didn't cost me much. You may find that some suppliers don't have prices but the good ones will still be willing to help and may offer you an idea of price.

Its never to early to start as long as u know what u want and not one who changes their mind constantly. Good for you being organised Smiley smile

I'm getting married July 2016 and while I haven't booked/bought anything yet, I know a lot of what I want to get. People keep saying how far away it is but I know the time will fly by and it'll be here before we know it!

Ditto! I am the one to change my mind about the small stuff (like shoes, accessories, etc...) but not about the big stuff (venue, catereres, photographers, etc...) So I booked the ones I knew I was going to stick with as soon as possible (we got engaged May last year, wedding is next July) and the details being left to a bit later so I don't waste money if I want something else!

Like it was also said here, look into booking things as early as possible, as some suppliers change this year prices for advance booking and you guarantee what you want Smiley smile

    Good luck!

I got engaged back in February, I have booked everything except the groomsmen outfits & registrar (though they have pencilled me in) no harm in being organised!

OH was worried I'd be bored next year, thinking that once you book something that's it, but I soon told him that we still have loads to do in terms of choosing the colours & flavours for the cake, table plans, picking music etc. I just wanted to make sure we had who we wanted not have to pick someone else because they were fully booked.

A lot of my suppliers have said I'm more organised than them haha! Go for it girl! Smiley smile

Like the others said as long as you're not going to change your mind on anything or buying clothing etc when you/anyone else could lose or gain weight etc, it's never too early to start planning and you'll be much better off financially nearer the time as well Smiley smile

Won't do any harm planning that early! Just make sure you get insurance as unfortunately the longer the planning and bigger gap between deposits being paid and the wedding the increased (albeit quite small) chance of a company folding on you.

We booked the venues for our September 2015 wedding in October 2012, so almost the same time frame as you Smiley smile

We booked the tog, vog, & caterer soon after and have been picking up bits and pieces, or paying deposits on other things as we go. We've barely noticed spending anything to be honest, so spreading the cost is definitely helping.

What you'll find if you're anything like me is that there will be periods where you're very wedding focused and will do loads of research, book things etc, followed by weeks (or months!) where you do nothing at all. Unless you charge in and do it all right now you'll still be left with loads to do further down the line.

We started planning properly in July 2012 and the last 15 months have absolutely whizzed by! Theres no harm in having a good look around to see what you like Smiley smile
