Starting to plan, opinions required please

tizmelou, 23 August, 2011 at 12:31 Posted on Planning 0 18

We've got a venue of choice and shes given us some indication of costs for what we want so we are going to see them to finalise and hopefully book on 6th September for 16th September 2012.

Just one of the many points we'll be discussing and I'd like peoples opinions as to whether is sounds a good idea or not is (following canapes) we will be having a 4 course wedding breakfast (including a cheese course) approx time in my head about 5.30 - and wedding cake to follow too

We'll be having no extra guests in the evening but will be having a disco with existing guests.

My thoughts were that a full on buffet wouldn't be required but wanted to provide the guests with something to fill a hole after drinking and dancing (hope they will be!) before bed - everyone will be staying over. I inititally wanted hotdogs and baccon butties but the hotel wedding co ordinated suggested as its in Cornwall how about a selection of pasties (and I am going to as for chips too so that people could just have a few chips if they're not pastry eaters like me).

What do you think? Are pasties not popular enough? My mum made a disapproving silence noise (we all know someone that can do that right??) that told me she didn't rate the idea so I'd like a few more opinions please before I go finalising things?!?!

I know its only a minor detail but its playing on my mind!

I think pasties are a lovely idea, especially if you're in Cornwall. Mini ones would be good, partly so they're easier to eat and partly so you could have a couple of different flavours.

Pasties sound fab and you can make sure you do a few differnt varieties to please people, ie. veggie, traditional cornish etc. I'm sure there are some out there, but I'm yet to meet anyone who doesn't like pasties!

Sounds wonderful to me too. Canapés plus four course meal that late in the day, with no extra people in the evening? Absolutely the right decision. A buffet would be overkill and, as ever, there'd be loads left over. Always seems such a waste.

And you just know how scrummy those warm pasties will smell when you've worked off the meal having been prancing for a couple of hours ....

    Go for it!

I think pasties is a fab idea! I think because its a bit different from having bacon butties, and like everyone else has said, have mini ones so that people have got a choice.

I love pasties and I love the reasoning behind having them, but my OH would pull a face.

Could you do some pasties and some butties?

    Pasties are a great idea.

We are doing similar and offering pork pies.

I was hoping chips in addition to a selection of pasties would suit most people - maybe I could have some buttered rolls for the really hungry to have chip butties but I'm just thinking most people wont want much! I'll be more than happy with a few chips meself - especially as my relationship started over a bag of chips!! (ahhhh)

Ditto the mini pasties idea...I have yet to meet someone who doesn't like a pasty!

I think it is nice to do something different and to try and tie in the venue locality with the menu as much as possible - my brother got married in Lancaster and they had Lancaster Hotpot for their wedding breakfast and we are getting married in Devon so instead of canapes we are having a little cream tea after the ceremony with mini scones & clotted cream!

I think it's a fab idea. Pasties and chips at midnight is my idea of heaven, especially after lots of drinking and dancing. x

I wouldn't be thrilled at being faced with a table full of pasties. I only really like those steak slice ones. Cornish pasties are minging.

But i agree that you don't need a whole buffet if you're not having anyone extra.
