Stationery - Help

far2calm, 12 October, 2011 at 11:49 Posted on Planning 0 18

Next job on my list is invitations, well really the whole stationery, I'm a bit of a fanny and want everything to match. From the invitations to the thank you cards and everything in between.

Went to Hobby Craft last night looking for some inspiration and left feeling more confused than ever. So many questions. The main problem I think I'm going to have is my bridesmaid dresses (which I want as the colour scheme) are a colour that seems hard to match up - Persian Plum

I first thought it would be more of a purple, but it isnt when you put the swatches of chiffon next to it. Its not pink or red either, so now wondering if I can bring another colour into the scheme, but what!?!

Also as I'm planning on making my own invitations I want to find card that will match eveything inclduing the likes of the order of service/places cards.

Oooo and another thing has anyone ever bought a Martha Stewart punch, if so what was it like!?!?

Any help, info and ideas on style of invitations would be fab as I feel this is the hardest part of the planning so far.... ?

Thanks

    Plum and green?

    Plum and yellow?

Try google image search "plum and xxxx wedding" and see if any of the combinations really appeal to you.

As for invites, you could have chequebook style, pocketfolds, or just folded booklet style. What sort of day are you having, have you picked anything like a theme that might give some inspiration? Even the venue may lend itself to an idea - as, of course, you don't want to clash horribly with the carpet!

    Thanks... that may work.

Married in my local churh and then having a marquee. Which could be a good thing or a bad things as the venue is blank canvas so therefore no inspiration for the colour scheme. As we are having white lining in the marquee and windows down one side I didnt just want white and green flowers etc as I think it may look little clinical...

So was thinking this sort of thing for the middle of the tables as its a mixture of colours but still in the same sort of family.

I know what you mean, plum is a really difficult colour to match. I decided on plum for our colour but then found it difficult to find things to match. I couldn't find card to match and flowers were really limited. So we decided to have plum and a kind of dusky pink so there are different shades. I'm having the bridesmaid dresses made by a dress maker and she is going to order extra fabric for me so that I can make sashes for my flower girls and cravats for the men as well as some decorations. I found that otherwise I wouldn't be able to get things to match. So my flowers will be pink and white and the card for the stationary is also going to be pink.

Yeah I think I might have to do something similar. Ordered the dress, ties and material for the mens pockets so no turn back really now.

A pinky colour might be the best option and easier for getting flowers.

    Thanks Smiley smile

I have 2 paper punches similar to the martha stewart ones. I think mine are woodman craft ones. I've got two different sized flower ones which i am using with some tea party themed patterned paper. I can really recommend them as, like you, i love that i can make all the stationary match.

Thanks everyone, think I'm going to buy a few bits and make some invites up and see what I like the best. I just seem to be over thinking it all to much, but its the first impression guests get of your wedding so want it to be just right Smiley smile

I would say it is a sort of Aubergine is that right or just they way it shows on my screen?

I had a very similar colour and I REALLY struggled with invitations it was the hardest bit, in the end I went with white but detailed invites - this was the first mock up not got the final ones on this laptop.. and brought in colours elsewhere.

Hope you find what your looking for

What about a black and white or black and ivory pattern as suggested, then using the correct colour bow? Ribbon comes in all sorts of colours, even your local market might be a good place to start. Then you could make something like this, but with your plum ribbon:

Probably just going for a classic off-white textured card with a cactus sunset lanscape shot printed onto it, our names on the front and the info inside. A friend of mine had engagement invitations that they made themselves .
