STD Costs

MrsRtoH, 4 September, 2012 at 13:35 Posted on Planning 0 27

Hey Gang!

I'm starting to look into Save the Dates and as im going to be sending out about 100 I wondered how much everyone spent on theirs? Did you get them printed of a website ie. Vistaprint/Zazzle?

£300 seems an awful lot... I like the magent ones though.... Am i just being picky? if i want to keep costs down am i going to have to make these myself?

Thanks in advance.

I got all mine from vistaprint - postcards of an image we designed and matching magnets. I made them, then left them in my "basket". After a couple of days I started getting endless emails offering money off etc. In the end I only paid about £8 for 100, plus got other freebies :-)

    Hiya!

I made my own and they came out lovely. I used the printer and posh paper from work (shhh!) and bought the backing card from Dunelm Mill for about 6 pounds, and Wilkinson's do ivory envelopes, 25 for £1 - so that was me sorted!

However, a friend of mine used the business cards on Vistaprint as Save the Date cards and it cost her under £10! I wish I'd though of it! If you sign up for their newsletter they always send through emails with everything free, and you just pay delivery - I got 500 business cards for my mobile hairdressing business on there for £4.99 delivery last year!

So I'd sign up to Vistaprint while you're still thinking about it and see what offers they send you... they might even send you one to get free magnets made up! If they do, try adding things to the basket twice - I was only supposed to be able to get 250 free business cards and I managed to add it twice and get 500 Smiley smile

They do send a lot of emails but it's worth it if it helps. There's no point paying £300+ for save the date cards as there are so many hidden costs popping up here and there the closer you get to your wedding - save your money for those! Plus people will keep the invite as a keepsake, the save the date cards are likely to be eventually thrown out.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

I got magnet ones on ebay and paid about £15 for 60. They were sent out with our Christmas cards, so didn't impact on us postage-wise.

I got my magnets made by Vistaprint. Signed up, and within a few days had an email offering 10 free large magnets and 25 free business card size magnets. So got both free lots, plus and extra 10 large ones. Cost me £15 including the charge for uploading my own design and delivery. 45 magnets in total. Works out 33p per magnet. Not bad when I was quoted £2 per magnet to get them done elsewhere.

Yep - they offered them completely free so i thought why not!? Only ended up sending those to family and closer friends alongside the postcard but it was a nice little extra!

I sent vistaprint magnets and postcards too. Grand total of around £9 (which was for postage)

Great quality and everyone commented on them.

We're going to use Vistaprint too. I don't see save the dates as hugely important as most of our friends and family know the date already but we'd like to send something out.

I used the same person that's making my invitations for my Save the Dates as I want all the stationery to be the same. I think it was about £30-40, a figure I was happy spending.

I got 100 free postcards from vista, just paid a few quid for delivery.

Then just the cost of a stamp, although as I sent them with my xmas cards I guess you can discount that too!

I made mine - note cards, passport sized photos of us, parchment paper, ribbon, and magnetic tape to turn them into fridge magnets. I made 80 for a grand total of about £8. xx

I made 50 for just under twenty quid - which included postage, as I didn't need to post all of them, some I just gave to my mum/nan to hand out.

On a slightly unrelated side note...

I have a massive family, a lot of them in London (im in Liverpool). I'm only having 40 day time guests. I feel i need to send all my cousins in london save the dates for the evening. did you specify that it was only the evening on your save the dates? Becuase my aunt in london will be invited to the day. and i know they are all very close. do you think there may be some confusion? or shall i just leave it as 'Save the Date blah blah blah' and let the invitations specify the day time and evening guests? xx

If you're going to send STDs out for the evening, I would recommend you specify it's the evening. I know some people use 'Save the Evening' instead of save the date etc.

If I received a generic 'Save the Date' I would assume I'm being invited to the whole thing, and then be disappointed when I received an evening invitation, especially if I had to book the day off work.

I would have to change the wording then becuase 'Save the Evening, Roxy & Hub are getting Married' doesnt make sence. it sounds like we're getting married in the evening....

Never received a 'save the evening', but then again the only weddings I have been to so far have been for family, so been there the whole day!

I think 'save the evening , name and name are getting married' sounds fine. I would have just assumed that it was for a reception. At the end of the day, your invitations would definitely clarify why they would need to save the evening! You just don't want people to be annoyed if they receive a normal 'save the date' and then only get invited to the evening. Does that make sense?

Another way you could potentially do it: Save the Evening, for name and name's wedding reception'

You could say "Save The Evening, to celebrate name and name's wedding!" I think people will get the idea with something like that! x
